Hi Guys,

I have been using a 50" full HD TV mostly for watching news and talk shows & youtube videos and I did not upgrade it since I had purchased a 4K projector Sony VPL for home cinema experience for watching movies and live sports events. Now a lot of content is available in 4K and it is a hassle to go to the basement to start up the whole system to watch a 15 minute video. The old panel will be installed in the kitchen so that we can watch recipes while cooking instead of 12" iPad screen.

Hence, we (me & my wife) have decided to upgrade the TV since good discounts are available (i.e. summer sales) and now the natural upgrade is 4K but even 8K displays are also available but those are quite expensive and not much content is available for 8K. However, in 2-3 years 8K will become common so buying 8K TV is future safe as 4K upgrade will be short lived and we would need to upgrade it..

So what are your suggestions guys.. 4K or 8K and which model, price, quality & your experience?

Buddy for me it’s not worth that much, I would rather suggest you to stick with 4K but with Android. I have got a Sony 65” curved android and I loved it. It costed me fortune when I bought that but trust me every pence was worth it.

You can download quite a few android based apps and enjoy loads of 4K contents. My two pennies.

4K would be the way to go. 8K TV's are at their infancy. 4K TV's have been around for a while now and the tech is solid. Go for something like a 4K OLED TV. LG 4K OLED TV's are awesome. I am also a big fan of Panasonic TV's if you have the money. Natural colors and top quality panels.

If you download 4K movies you are in for a treat. There is good 4K content out there.

Bro there isn't much 8k content out there and you would spend a vast amount of money for nothing. Go for 4k.
By the way look at LG and Samsung.

I have had a 4K LG LED TV for 3 years now and every penny I spent on it was worth it.
It will last me many more years before a new TV is required and then I will probably go for 8K.

I normally rent movies from iTunes and other services. But this TV won't be for watching movies rather...for the family room / tv-lounge for watching news, documentaries and talk shows, educational videos etc.
My current TV is Panasonic Plasma panel FHD i.e. 1080p but to be honest the colours are better than many mid range 4K tvs. but alas, now no plasma panels any more especially in 4k so I will go for 4k OLED. Panasonic stopped making them because those are too expensive and difficult to make for 4K.

I think so too because right now 8k is expensive and not much content and the technology is not matured so in 3-4 years will be right time to buy an 8k if needed ... BTW I don't like to update TVs so often and that's why I have been using an FHD for so long while most of the people upgraded to 4k already.

Sony remains king in my books. 8k is over kill. Remember most new tvs are not having a long life; if you get more than 4 years you are lucky.

Looks like you are the kind of the guy who likes to invest once in a gadget and that too based upon quality rather than mainly on price... If tht is true then try loewe or thomson tvs.
It will cost u a fortune but every penny would be worth it. The jump is same as like moving from sony or LG sound system to harmen, bose, B&O or for me at least hopefully one day sonos faber.
Its rare that you would find a sale on loewe uhdtvs but trust me nothing i mean nothing comes close to loewe. Not sony, not lg, not samsung.. Nothing.
Just like you described above regarding your panasonic being better than many 4ks, a loewe would outlast anything that sony/samsung/LG has to offer for at least a few years down the line.

bhai i make cinema for living and i am certified projectionist and level-1 tech support, we cannot differentiate between a uncompressed 1080p and 2k/4k often from a distance, it's all marketing hype so forget about 8k

stick to 4k its going to take some time for 4k content to become common, 8k and even 4k is over kill for home environment but certainly awesome for companies and marketeers who can sell them to people who love bragging rights

Yes, you're I'm not into quick changes but when I purchase normally I go for the flagship model that lasts for years after reading reviews, recommendations from friends and my own experience.

I'm using Klipsch Reference series 7.2 system in my home cinema for Dolby Atomos THX certified in basement while Canton Vento 7.1 speaker set for the living room so I don't see any reason to upgrade my sound system. I have B&W in my car.

I will definitely check Loewe TV.. these are pricey but not something totally out of the budget we have allocated for this but I really love when I'm able to save some money from the set aside amount :D

These look quite thick. BTW, I never use the built in speakers of the TV so it has to be the superb display with connectivity option and good OS like webOS etc, though I have a few digital boxes.

BTW, which model do you recommend. I was just looking at Loewe Reference 55.

8K will be worth it 10 years from now and not 2-3 years. Buy 4K OLED from Sony or LG.

Panasonic and all these Korean crap are no way near to Sony. Btw android is not available in LG and also in Samsung most probably. The Sony I have its model num is KD-65XD8505.

As you would know Loewe is picture plus sound which looks elegant as well.... normally you wont need a sound system with loewe as they have 40 watts and above speakers where as most of consumer brands have sub 20 watts speakers and i ahve not touched the technical aspects here just the consumption is enough of a reference.
Bild 7 of loewe is an overkill for you as u have a gud sound system so go for bild 5 or bild 3.
Bild 5 have 3 sizes 40 or 45, 55 and 65 and Bild 3 gives you a wider range. select as per your living room size. I have usually found 55 to be more than adequate for any living room

Whilst Sony produces good TV's Panasonic is on a different level. LG is the king of OLED.
