The cannons of LST (Landing Ship, Tank) Lesvos fire against the Turkish enclave of Paphos. The involvement of the ship in the clearance of the pocket was very important. The commander of the ship acting without any orders from his higher-ups sent some of his troops to attack two battalions of Turkish-Cypriot troops accompanied by bombardment from the ship's cannons. The commander then stopped communications with the rest of the forces and took an unorthodox route back to Greece by sailing close to Egypt's shores to avoid being detected. The Turkish navy counter-attacked and shot down four Turkish aircrafts.
