This is why I am sure that ALL of China can have a GDP per capita similar to my own city (Hong Kong) one day in the future.

This shows that there is no middle-income trap for any future Chinese societies. In fact, the middle-income trap has never affected any "East Asian" nation at all.

Imagine 1.3 billion people with a GDP per capita of HK, that would be amazing!

(Shanghai has already beaten us in terms of GDP, and other mainland cities are soon to follow.)

Hong Kong has never been a democracy, Singapore is classed as a "hybrid" system (no full democracy)... and Taiwan has only turned democratic very recently, most of their history was under one-party rule.



If you think we have a democracy in Hong Kong, then please tell me when was the last time we were able to elect our top leaders? Tung Chee-hwa, Tsang Yam-kuen? Never.
