37% of All the Illiterate Adults in the World Are Indian

In my home state kerala ,I know a guy.He is illiterate ,illiteracy is something that a rarest to rare case in kerala. But he owned
about 20 acre land.Half with rubber plantations and rest for cultivating other agriculture items. Now he has Benz car.But he dont know how to right his name.
Fact is that even if illiteracy is problem in India.Regular stereotypes and false methdology cant find real illiterate in a country like India.
Then there was this guy in Kerala who was standing at a bus stop. The man next to him during the conversation, asked him what his qualifications were. He said that he is 3rd class pass and a school drop out. The fellow then started to convince him the need to study and get qualified and get a good job so he could afford to buy one of the apartments in the highrise buildings across the road.

The guy turns around and asks him: "Do you see those three high rise buildings there? And this Audi here? I own them!"

Kerala's literacy drive has been commendable. That is why it is the Sh!tt!est state in India.

It has allowed Mallus to work in the Gelf.

Banana chips!

India has 287 million illiterate adults, the largest population globally and 37% of the world total, says a report by U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, also known as UNESCO.

India’s literacy rate increased by 15% between 1991 and 2006, but subsequent population growth had meant the total number of illiterate people has remained roughly the same.

India devotes around 10.5% of its total government expenditure on education. But while rich states like Kerala spend around $685 per pupil per year, in poorer states like Bihar expenditure is only around $100.

Not a surprise. A large percentage of them are in PDF too I suspect

Litteracy and intelligence/ common sense are two different things.it is good to have an education but it does not say you are intelligent.even western education does not ensure it - eg:Rahul Gandhi :).

No one believes those fake stats.

The average Indian is extremely dumb. The numbers don't match what we see with our own eyes.

well at least smarter than you anyway.

You might want to wipe that froth off your face. It is distracting.

The number is about 35% of entire Islamic World combined.

Seems like India and Islamosphere are on same boat on this one...

That is what I am talking about. It is cultural difference .In west countries all will dressed tip top and when others saw them they think they are some high graduated.but in reality they may be hotel waiters. In India when foreigners see our dress code and style .They think we are poor and illiterate .But in fact some of them are surely millioners and large agricultural enterprenurs.
About 2 km from my village I saw a guy .He is a brahmin. He owned acres of land. But he is a mentally disturbed person.
my friend is in that area.He told me that Brahmin history.people around that area call him"Vattan nampoothiri".
But he got his post graduation from IIT madras.(mtech first rank). He is rich and educated and highly qualified according to an average Indian standard. But what use?
This so called west countries and NGO calculated our literacy using false methodology.Calculating a diversified country like India with 125 people is impossible. We can see lot of people in India that brilliant and has good common sense and owned acres of land.May they are illiterate .But they follow a good life and no one can cheat them.
Infact there is lot of graduates in India that they cant earn there daily meal and struggling with poverty.
