35 killed in China oil pipeline explosion

.
28,000 may seem a lot but in the whole scale of things its actually not alot. The International Labour Organisation estimates around 2.3 million death world wide from workplaces accidents and related diseases, of which people from asia accounted for 1.1 million of them.

Naturally work place related death will be higher in China because of the sheer size of the industries, construction and mining. When compared to less advanced economies with little heavy industries, their work related death will be related to easily avoidable things such as lack of safety equipment, exposure to asbestos, long term diseases which almost is under-reported.

Oh I misunderstood the title, I though it says "during the incident" but actually it is "in the half of the year".
I was sleepy anyway.

BEIJING: Rescuers have found more bodies at the scene of oil pipeline blasts in eastern China, bringing the death toll in one of the country's worst industrial accidents this year to 52.

The Qingdao government information office said on its microblog on Sunday that four more bodies had been found. Eleven other people are still missing following Friday's explosions from a ruptured oil pipeline owned by China's largest oil refiner, Sinopec.

The information office says rescue efforts are continuing. A total of 136 people have been injured, 10 of whom are in critical condition.

Sinopec apologized on Saturday for the explosions that ripped slabs of pavements and overturned vehicles. It said it would investigate and "give timely reports".

Yeah as with most places in the world is less valuable than money. The only thing that changes between countries is the amount of money.

@Chinese members. What are the regulations/etc for workers in terms of OH&S in worksites? High-vis jackets, steel capped boots etc

The problem isn't so much the official or big construction sites and work places, they have as much safety standards as the West.

It's the little factories and things of that nature that is hard to regulate, on the one hand, their margins are really thin, if they are making money at all, on the other hand, if we close them down, well, people will have no jobs and we can't really compete on a quality bases due to prestige yet.

So now to this issue, tragedy is, but accident could happen, don't make it out to be more than that, accidents happen all over the world, be it developed or otherwise.

We can only charge forward, for the only time worker safety will be wide spread is when our workers are earning enough to not be able to step on them as easily. Like any revolution it cannot be bloodless.
