331.38 PKR/1Litre Petrol price in Pakistan پاک بوجھ ۔۔۔ زندہ باد

80Rs per litre is just in taxes alone.

Imagine the impact on inflation and productivity in this country if fuel wasn't taxed.
If fuel isn't taxed, there won't be any road maintenance or building. Once the roads wither away and become dusty paths with potholes, what will you do with vehicles?

.
Yes it is. In India it's almost 97 Inr per litre now.
Convert it in Pkr it's 342 Pkr.
Tbh even in this inflation Pakistan is not that bad overall if we look at other countries. Still it isn't hyper inflation.
So called developed country UK is facing food inflation , people are eating less over there. Food is still accessable here overall.
We are facing pressure mostly on imported items because of devaluation of Pakistani ruppee.

The people in India and UK have much stronger purchasing power than those in Pakistan.

These people are so addicted to subsidies that it hurts them when they are forced to pay market price.

The increases are more significant due to the PDL and other levies. No one is saying that the government should sell us oil on a subsidy, but that doesn't mean that the govt covers up it's own inefficiency and lack of political will to tax undocumented sectors, and pick up the slack from POL products. Or from the working salaried class.

Tax the fuel, but only what the fuel demands.

Do not fill your income tax, agri tax, property tax, and other tax deficits by going for the easy fish.

It's like you have a major leak under your home, but instead of fixing that to reduce water expense, you use the washroom only once a day to conserve water.

It is still cheaper than that India.

At today’s conversion rate it is just ₹93 per ltr.

In India it sells for INR 96 to 109 per ltr. The disease of subsidy on petrol and diesel was removed long back. When it started there was a lot of noise. It has all settled down now, but it took more than 4-5 years.

IMF is right in demanding the linking of prices to market rates. Important for fiscal balance.

A question, is all of Pakistan's oil needs being met through legitimate import ? I have seen a thread a few weeks back huge lines of trucks smuggling Iranian oil into Pakistan and some powerful people are behind it and benefiting from it. If true, the smuggled oil should sell for cheaper, if not these powerful people are making huge profits at the expense of the suffering of Pakistani people. I wonder if this was one of the reasons why Pakistani ruling class never completed the Iran Pakistan pipeline because it would end the smuggling trade and their profits ?

.
Oil is being smuggled through Iran. The number is probably 10-20% of the total oil imports. The state is not getting any tax receipts from such smuggling activities.

Secondly, from what I understand is, now Pakistan is not selling oil below the global spot rate. They’re actually charging dubious levies and taxes on oil prices.

Thirdly, you can gradually increase oil prices if need be, but the rate of acceleration in the last year is unprecedented.

Forthly, currency devaluation translates into steep oil prices in Rs.

The state has many avenues to tax the undocumented economy. Real estate, agriculture, digitizing the economy, reduce smuggling etc. But as we all know, it won’t happen.

The state needs to tax sectors like real estate, agriculture, retail and wholesale but its easier said than done.Shabbar zaidi tried to tax traders but faced opposition from them.

We should be taxing wealth, profits and income. The tax net in Pakistan is tiny, it should be much wider and it should more means tested.

These blanket taxes hurt the general public, they are indiscriminate and they actually limit our economic output.

Also if a tax on vehicles is required, have a specific one based on the class of vehicle. Have an annual tax that vehicle owners have to pay.
