Seems they are looking forward to the times in the future as the situation seems to be changing for the whole world and they think it's better to clear the ground first in order to grip hard the region gradually.
This is not a small presence in this small region
"-5.100 troops
-3 drones (Reaper)
-7 fighter jets
-22 helicopters
-6 to 10 military transports/cargo aircrafts
-290 heavy armored vehicles
-380 logistic vehicles (most armored)
-240 light armored vehicles".
What an "achievement" if France maintains a "hard grip" on a region the size of Europe and populated by +80 million inhabitants with only 5.100 troops.
Just to give you a perspective, the distance between Bamako in Mali and N'djamena in Chad is greater than between Paris and Moscow.
