Have you ever been to Nagaland, Manipur, J&K/? Do please take a visit there and see what is going on. It is nowhere as idealistic and rosy as you think. Two of these states are in my region with one of them having AFSPA due to separatism. Believe me, no one wants AFSPA but it is as important for now as it was before.

Please suggest better methods of solving terrorism and trafficking in these regions. Just shouting against AFSPA won't solve the problem.

AFSPA is not a army only rule. it is also for paramilitary and central police deployed in that insurgency hit area. in a Democratic country like india, army, paramilitary or central police don't have any authority to interfere in the internal matters of a state, when army/paramilitary force is called to reduce or suppress an insurgency the AFSPA gives them right to arrest, interrogate, or shoot to kill a terrorist(only if he is a terrorist) with out informing the state police force. it is not a law for army to shoot any person they want. every country have some this kind of rules. expect Pakistan where rules are made by army, no one is going to ask them. in US their is a rule that allows central force to arrest or shoot to kill a person who is a threat to the national security which is absent in india's case, this law help the federal agencies like FBI to interfere any issue in their country. So AFSPA is necessary for maintaining law and order in the country if central forces are called in.

AFSPA allows for any security personnel of any rank to arrest, detain, shoot, kill any body on the basis of mere suspicion without any judicial warrant; plus they also have legal immunity from public prosecution if the person killed is later proved innocent. If you have no problem with a black law like that in a democracy then I have nothing more to add.

And please do not compare USA and India. In USA human rights are of prime importance. Human rights violations take place in US no doubt but they also face trials.

And yes, army has a say on whether AFSPA should be imposed or removed. The state government does not have a say on that. AFSPA is against every ethics of a democracy. If you want India to be like Burma or China then go ahead and campaign for AFSPA. Not only in these states but also in maoist-hit areas.

Let entire India be under AFSPA so that there is no discrimination.
