What's new

3 Rohingya women held for carrying 3000 yaba drug in their stomach in Teknaf.

I don't think you know what a burqa is...

Anyway they're probably poor women who got used as drug mules. I really doubt they're your nations biggest threat.
pretty stupid thing to say... but then when i see it's coming from you, i expect no less.

drug is more of a bigger threat than terrorism.... look at afghanistan for example

I've never talked to you before, not that I can remember anyway.

He said "These Rohingyas are currently the biggest threat for Bangladesh. ", he didn't say "these drug dealers are currently the biggest threat to Bangladesh". So I'm pretty he wasn't talking about drugs being the biggest threat as most drug dealers in bangladesh are probably bengali, not foreigners.

What’s the purpose of this news by this fifth columnist?

Spread discord between BD'shis and Rohingyas.

The ladies should be punished but the sentence should be not more than a few years as they have committed the crimes under extreme personal duress. That would have the benefit of deterring others while being humane at the same time.

this is why you shouldn't comment about unfamiliar stuff...
a big part of bangladesh's drug trade is done by foreigners.... and his statement isn't far from the truth... sure the distributors are bengalis... but the producers and dealers are rohyngas, nigerians etc

If they're imported to your country then they're more likely to produced by the buddhists or some other group in myanmar with the rohingya being caught in the middle as drug mules.

If you want teach me about happens then give me some proof or statistics about who produces it. Otherwise I have no reason to believe just your word.

i have no reason to provide you with statistics.
yes the drugs YABA in particular are being produced in burma... but in the past other drugs such as heroine, cocaine or phensidyl would be produced either in country or imported from india to meet demand... but Rohyngas aren't innocent either... all they've done till date is sell their women into prostitution, breed like rabbits when contraceptives are provided for free and get involved in drug smuggling and forging documents to go abroad and commit crimes in the GCC which later is blamed on the bangladeshis.

.
They shoukd get severe punishment. At least 30 years of jail time or capital punishment.

They r drug smugglers.

It isn't the duty of the judges to see what would've happened to the accused criminals if they hadn't committed the crime.

They have committed a henious crime and should be severely punished.

Agree. People always want to use sympathy excuse for these things....its slippery slope argument. I mean if you dont have same set of sympathy rules for broader bangladesh population (to apply law different because people were not in "right frame of mind"/"coerced" blah blah)....why special rules for others?

What stops people from then abusing the precedent (once set)....simply because they are Rohingya?

Given special destruction that drugs do....there should be zero tolerance policy by Bangladesh on application of its laws to all. Too many examples around world of this lesson learned too late (or never learned).

Sentencing always takes personal circumstances into account
- as an example a homeless man who steals a loaf of bread gets less of a sentence than a rich lawyer who does the same.

.
No,

If they get away such easily, it will encourage others to do the same because they will know that they won't be punished even if they get caught.

They knew the risk and took it to gain financial benefit. These smugglers should face severe punishment.

They r here to destroy our youth.

why isn't 5 year sentence in a prison not severe enough ?

no one is recommending zero sentencing. a three to five year sentence takes away good chunk of their productive life

They were smuggling on behalf of someone at the top only for a small pittance. You are asking for too severe a punishment for them. These three women are very poor and destitute and took risks on their own lives by intaking Yaba pill packets in their stomach. This is all for survival in this harsh world. Have pity for them. Catch the main criminals and punish them 30 years.

That is defence counsel and judge's job to show (evidence) and take into account (sentencing).

Prosecution (govt attorney team) should treat to fullest extent from their side....but seems ppl here want to discriminate from prosecution side itself.

.
Bangladesh should following sentencing models of places such as western europe, Yaba would be categorized as a Class A and therefore a 3-5 year sentencing would suffice. If the said person is a re-offender, they receive a harsher sentencing based on their past. Don't ruin their life, but also make sure it is a deterrent. Seize their assets, etc.

Bangladesh judiciary system has a tendency to go overboard.

I don't know how true this conspiracy theory is but I think the rohingyas are intentionally increasing their population so that they can outnumber both bengalis in Coxs Bazaar and Rakhines in Arakan. In this way they can create a separate state for themselves with Arakan and parts of Chittagong. These people are barely alive but still is producing babies. I can see conspiracy here.

Bold part: Not only that they can also elect you the Father of Rohingya Nation comprising Chittagong and Arakan. Keep on dreaming.

I read this theory in a blog. It's a rhetoric alright but found the theory interesting.
