Had a talk with a source, who said they are still with the the four contender, emphasizing on Mig-29SMT and F-16block50/52. Second priority has been given to the Su-30MK2. However the pilots are more interested in Su-30MK2.

BAF may also go for 32-48 F-16 Block 30/32 under US EDA.

They are also in the planning stage for the future fighter bomber aquisition program, which may capitalize into 24-32 4.5 gen aircraft with possible perticipants are Su-30MK3, F/A-18E/F, F-15E. This aquisition will take place after 2026.

No one said Bangladesh is planning on J-21 or whatsoever.

By 2026, the F-15 will become 52 year old design. And besides, the Americans would replace the remaining with F-35s. They'd be old, and expensive to maintain. There are many F-15s in one of those boneyards in the US.

But then, the F-15 is still a formidable air superiority fighter today given that it has good up-to-date systems. The mere sight of an F-18 or F-15 would sent cold feet to any average air force. A 50 year old 4th generation design with a flawless combat record does not automatically make it bad.

According to some sources, BD has sent 4 high-level officials from defense ministries, foreign affairs, economic relations division and the ministry of commerce to Russia to finalize a deal for buying aircraft and helos under supplier credits. Apparently, this $850 million dollar credit is largest of its kind for defense procurement in BD's history. This is the 3rd round of negotiation that will be carried out in Moscow and hope fully a complete details of the deal will be disclosed soon.

According to a procurement proposal sent to the board, F-16 and JAS-39 gripen has been screened out of 4++ generation fighter procurement program. Three are now two contenders left Mig-29 and Su-30 with multiple versions in consideration.

For Mig-29 the following versions are under evaluation:
1. Mig-29SMT
2. Mig-29M/M2
3. Mig-29MMRCA

For Su-30 the following versions are under evaluation:
1. Su-30MKB
2. Su-30MK2
3. Su-30M2

The total number varies from 32 to 80 (nobody could confirm). 16 (1 squadron) of which shall be ordered in 2013 Q3 according to the proposal. The total number to be ordered eventually, may get split between Mig-29 and su-30 as well.

Lets wait and see what happens.

Are you being serious? A single SQD of Su-30s would drain the entire BD defence budget not to mention their up-keep would eat the defenc ebudgets for the next decade. If the PAF can't afford modern 2 engined fighters there is no way BD can right now. (Mig-29s don't count so much)


Not to mention doctrinal conflict.
