2nd Russian-built submarine arrives at Vietnam port

A Kilo-class submarine Russia built for Vietnam arrived at Cam Ranh Bay in the south central province of Khanh Hoa on Wednesday.
The HQ 183 Ho Chi Minh City, the second of six Kilo-class submarines Vietnam bought from Russia, was carried to the Cam Ranh Port by cargo ship Rolldock Star.
Russian and Vietnamese experts will work to launch the submarine soon.
The HQ 182 Hanoi, the first of the six subs, arrived at the Cam Ranh Bay on December 31 last year.
Russia is scheduled to hand over Vietnam the third vessel, the HQ 184 Hai Phong, in November.
The six diesel-electric submarines, which are considered improvements over the older Kilo-class, were bought under a US$2-billion deal signed during a visit by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to Russia in 2009.
Under the contract, Russia will deliver all by 2016, train Vietnamese crews, and supply necessary spare parts.
Vietnam this week will send another sailor crew to Russia for training to prepare for the fifth submarine under the contract.

sub#1 and #2 are already in service
sub#3 is under sea trail and expected to be delivered this year.
sub#4 is launched and under sea trial
sub#5 is under construction
sub#6 is expected to be constructed later this year.

so it appears all 6 subs will be in service in 2015. one year earlier than expected.

In order to build submarine you need to having steel plate rolling machinery that can roll large diameter plate. Right now, Vietnam does not have this capability. The company that can roll the largest diameter in Vietnam can only produce a diameter in ...5 feet while submarine requires at least steel plate with diameter in 34 feet like the Kilo sub

You guys really need to devlop your own nuclear bomb,if you devlop the capability producing /manufacturing your weapons given by the small size of your economy you wont be able to produce it in large numbers and then you wont be able to counter China.

We can ask Russia to sell us the license and the technology to produce subs. the sooner we begin the better is it.

Vietnam needs a goahead of America, otherwise we will face international sanctions.
