I think either the locals beat up the othe pilot so bad that he died at the hospital or he died naturally, in either case revealing that he died under custody would enrage people so details were not revealed. We had 2 pilots, post-death we had 1 pilot.

The third pilot probably got to IOK and likely killed by locals there, who hate Indian forces anyways.
