Religious affairs need to be controlled by the state like it always has been. Preachers, Imams, Mullahs and ect... all need to be certified by the state and need to go through state-controlled 'religious colleges/universities' for religious education.

The State should not be involved in trying to control religious matters in the first place, but concentrate on its role as the framework that works for all its citizens, equally, and without regards to religion. There are so many shades of religious thought that trying to impose uniformity is a recipe for disaster.

For example, if the government did its job in providing the proper educational facilities, the main reason these madrassahs exist in the first place would no longer be there.

'Should have done' is past and past can't be undone. What matters is how this problem is tackled now of those that are breeding grounds of extremism and state has no choice but to intervene at this present time.

Not all madrassahs are breeding grounds. Regulating the education in these madrassah should be priority and then convert them in to normal schools.

Terrorism is no longer confined to madrassahs. Society-at-large by itself has now become the breeding ground.

As for 'society at large', what's the longest you've stayed in Pakistan during your visits to make that assessment? On what undeniable basis are you making this statement? Any statistical data available? or is it just a whim!?

If Pakistan carries on its present trajectory, it cannot go anywhere but down. That is crystal clear.

Where is the investment in education that is needed to provide the students forced to go to these retrogressive institutions with a viable alternative?
