What's new

27 million out of schools

How many of you have gone to a village and talked to the kids?

--- Posting cutting pasting is all good. How many of you have had real life heart to heart discussion with the tailor's son, or farmer's nephew? or black smith's intern?

How many?

How many talked to the farmer or tailor or black smith about kids education.

How many went to the local mosque and chatted with Mad-house madrussah students about their hopes and dreams?

how many?

I will share my story.. There was a news paper guy in ma area.. His son and I am of same age.. He was very good at studying.. On 10th std he scored around 80%.. BUt his father had to stop his studying because he had no money to send his son for higher learning.. I see him every day now working as a news paper guy.. Makes me think, he had a great future but he coudnt fulfill his dreams because his father didnt give much importance to learning..Same happens to many kids around South Asia.. Many drop out of school so that they can earn some money and buy some food.. School should provide free food along with education to these kids.. Thus we can stop drop out to an extend..

Ok this is the most urgent thing that Pakistan needs to do these children can be the next Taliban in making
Nawaz should make this a top priority

.
There will be long term effect if they dont go back to school...it is huge number

Quick answer is "yes"

However it will be naive to think that all of them are on the street busy "castrating dogs". Running around selling hash and weed.

Oh bhai logo!

Majority of these kids are getting trained in the "informal" cottage industry.

We just need to organize this informal sector and it will take very little money.

British style "Formal schooling" is good for producing baboos, peons, clerks, and high end professionals.

We should have mixed this style with German style "Apprenticeship schools" years ago. But we did not.

Why?

Many of our baboos, and intellecutals who were trained in British style system, CAN NOT think beyond baboo-ism, and clerky.

These "Brahmins from British style education" tend to look down at anyone who works with his own two hands.

Sort of a throw back to the good old Shudra class treatment for anyone who does the "low-class" jobs of being a car-mechanic, carpenter, black smith, etc.

While a boy trained as car-mechanic is all set to earn his own livelihood at 18.

the British style educated boy is begging for more money when he is 18.

And yet the "Brahmins from British style education" look down at car-mechanic as a lowly "untouchable"

even when he is a productive citizen of the society.

And the same "Brahmins from British style education" makes someone a hero if he scores high on A-levels.

We must view education from the POV of a farmer, a black-smith, a carpenter, a mechanic, a tailor, a carpet-weaver.

We must ask them, hey "what kind of young workers would you need next year and how should our education system make sure we provide you with top quality workers".

But we won't.

"Brahmins from British style education" will continue cut-pasting useless statistics
"Brahmins from British style education" will continue making false promises to our kids

But pathetically worse, these ullu "Brahmins from British style education" will continue ignore the needs of a black-smith, a carpenter, a mechanic, a tailor, a carpet-weaver. as they happen to be just the good old shudras.

Just the good old untouchables.

Sadly.

Yes there are lot of people like that due to the social condition also.. Many people whom I know who were brilliant in studies went to become plumber or an electrician so that they can make money to support their family.. There was time when getting a degree was a waste of time here.. People rater go to become a plumber or a electrician so that they can go to gulf and make some quick money..

0.9% really?if true than Bast*** PPP had disturbed everything

PHD student per year in 2004 reached 690 while in 2011 they decreased to only 150 as per Dr atta ur rehman

well you are right.recently checked again the education policy of PTI.they said will increase education budget upto 5% of GDP in 5 years.

if Nawaz increase it to even 3% this year.would be good enough considering that if the present share indeed is 0.9%

If their is any hope of a substantial increase in education spending by any govt,Pakistan first needs to cut a substantial amount of defense spending. This is inevitable. Now the question is who is gonna bite the bullet??

.
Khan sahib had planned 5% share of GDP for education.
What about Nawaz plan?will he increase it from present 2.1% of GDP?
what is the education policy of PMLN?

@Aeronaut @Awesome @nuclearpak If I had to dream up one suggestion that would help us all, it would be for Nawaz Sharif to increase the education budget to 5%, and appoint Imran Khan as the Minister for Education, with a mandate to set the children on the correct path to a proper education.

The best thing that could happen, but what are the chances of that happening?

That would mean that PTI is in coalition, not gonna happen.

A better guy than IK would be Asad Umar IMO.

......

Exactly my point Sir. If either of these leaders truly believed in their own visions for a better future for the country, they would come together over education since education is so vitally important. But, like you said, not gonna happen, because both will put their own political goals above Pakistan's future.

Alarming stuff...almost 80% in baluchistan out of school!

This figure of 78% out-of-school children in Baluchistan is not a surprise given that these are pre-school children aged 3-5 years. Early childhood schooling don't really exist in most of the developing world including India. But most of these are very likely to enter primary school at the age of 5+.

An important point to note in Barro-Lee dataset (Barro & Lee are Harvard University researchers) is that Pakistan has been increasing enrollment of students in schools at a faster rate since 1990 than India. In 1990, there were 66.2% of Pakistanis vs 51.6% of Indians who had no schooling. In 2000, there were 60.2% Pakistanis vs 43% Indians with no schooling. In 2010, Pakistan reduced it to 38% vs India's 32.7%.

Free lunch for kids did wonders for India...and now India has 75% literacy...
