Frontier Corps (FC), a paramilitary outfit under the Ministry of Interior currently policing the B-Areas of Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province is reported to have attacked the hideout of terrorists near major town of Kalat. According to reports, 26 terrorists of Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) have been killed whereas one soldier of FC has been injured. The operation is being conducted by soldiers of special operation wing and Kalat Scouts. During the logistic operation, one helicopter developed technical faults and had to crash land. The insurgents are reported to be armed with sophisticated weaponry including rocket launchers and hand-grenades.

FC initiated the operation to apprehend the terrorists involved in an armed attack on a passenger train.

Pakistan’s mineral-rich Balochistan province is in the grip of armed insurgency being fanned and fuelled by super and regional powers. A handful of BLA and BRA terrorists have killed scores of civilians and the paramilitary forces. The leaders of insurgency, scions of tribal chiefs safely lodged in Geneva and London, are leading the insurgency. They have amassed huge funds from Pakistan’s archrivals including some Gulf sheikhdoms.

The operation is still underway at the time of filing of this report.

Forces kill dozens of separatists in Balochistan

April 07, 2014

QUETTA: Pakistani paramilitary troops said they launched a military operation on Monday in the insurgency-racked southwestern province of Balochistan and killed some 40 rebels.

The toll could not be independently verified.

The resource-rich province is home to a long-running separatist conflict that was revived in 2004, with nationalists seeking to stop what they see as the exploitation of the region's natural resources and alleged rights abuses.

The Frontier Corps said in a statement the operation began early on Monday in the Farod area of Kalat district, around 300 kilometres southwest of the provincial capital Quetta.

"Around 40 insurgents belonging to the Baloch Republican Army (BRA) and Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) were killed during the operation," it said.

"Six vehicles were also destroyed during the operation and it is still going on."

Security and rebel accounts of clashes often differ greatly and spokesmen for the two separatist groups have so far declined to comment.

Some local residents told AFP a military helicopter had been shot down, but the Frontier Corps denied the reports. It said the helicopter made an emergency landing on a road in Kalat and the pilot and co-pilot were safe.

The fighting in Balochistan attracts little public attention, unlike the clashes with the Taliban in the northwest.

The idea of giving greater autonomy to the province, the size of Italy but with only nine million inhabitants, is highly sensitive in a country still scarred by the independence in 1971 of its eastern portion, now Bangladesh.

Balochistan, spread over an unforgiving landscape of mountains and deserts abutting Iran and Afghanistan, is rich in gas and mineral deposits — adding a financial dimension to the battle.

In recent years many people suspected of links to separatist groups have mysteriously disappeared, allegedly at the hands of the intelligence agencies.

We urge the ISI to take steps to locate and eliminate the support net at home and abroad. We need to take the battle to the enemy's bedroom. Some high value enemy individuals need to be removed as retribution.

ISI knows but they can't do anything about it. Pakistan needs money, and the money come from these places... If you know what I mean.

Nein, Pakistani security establishment, especially the ISI has a track record of operating regardless of geography.

Qataris are one of the largest facilitators of these terrorist outfits. What they should know is that pissing Pakistani Ibex off beyond a certain level comes with consequences.

ISI has a full plate and wants to remain surgical right now. This situation of course is likely to change.

These BLA chaps are pretty dreadful in straight fights. They better just carry on blowing up pipe lines, killing school children (blowing schools up) and preventing aid from reaching earthquake victims, as they lie dying....

The biggest problem for BLA is that they don't have sanctuaries in cities. They used to have them in the past but have lost them thanks to effective operations by FC. Now BLA has camps in mountains outside cities which exposes them to FC. They cannot hide in the population as there is no population in the areas they have camps. Even this area is outside Kalat. That's why they get their as$ owned by FC in operations.

PAF has raised an Unmanned Warfare Command along with a UAS Squadron. Very soon, there would be no place to hide.
