Indeed there is great potential for Vietnam within context of the Japanese industrialization and the need to fine tune our lean process designs. One of the major points that makes Vietnam incredibly durable and potent in the selection criterion include:

  1. High work output
  2. Government stability
  3. Thorough and homogenous population
  4. Confucian work ethic
  5. Geopolitical stability and dependability --- Vietnam and Japan are not rivals, but rather synergistic with one another.

Tho I will say that Japan is still vested in China, given we are the largest investor in China with over $100 Bilion FDI worth of investments in the mainland alone, not even including the investments in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, however the geopolitical positioning of Japanese Government and the Chinese Government makes it rather tenuous to maintain industrial output processes. While I do believe that Japan should remain vested in China , especially in the environmental, high process sectors, as well as corporate legal sectors and academic spheres, I think that it is important for Japan to diversify her external manufacturing from primarily China to the rest of South and Southeast Asia. I see that the Japanese Government and the Japanese Keidenren realizing this necessity , not based on national predicament or in regards to hostility , but rather in context to national stability and preventative measures. I think all parties should consider the pragmatic decision thereof.

...if I can add one point, VN has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. I remember one viet member posted once the statistic here, the number of capital crimes in Vietnam such as murder and rape is even lower than Japan. terrorism and racial tensions are non-existent. ok, the latter occured here and then, especially in regard to a country lying in the north, I don´t want to mention here.

I believe that is one thing that we Japanese focus on, crime rate and domestic stability. Yes, that is indeed a criterion. To be honest with you, my friend, in the Japanese mindset, both Vietnam and China are very similar and both are at par in regards to work ethic, work force, dependability. The only difference is the geopolitical aspect. China is a rival and maintains a very anti-Japanese policy , whereas Vietnam is pro-Japan in policy.

Second the cost.

Many Japanese companies with operations in China and Thailand – where costs have risen sharply – plan to expand to Viet Nam or even move here thanks to cheap labour and an improved investment environment.

According to a recent JETRO study, Japanese investors are concerned about five issues in Viet Nam – the inadequate legal system and lack of transparency, increasing labour costs, red tape, complicated tax procedure, and poor infrastructure.

But many multinationals expect Viet Nam to become a "factory of the world."

With the investment environment deteriorating in neighbouring countries, Viet Nam is emerging as an ideal investment destination.

But to take full advantage, the Government should speed up administrative reforms and further improve the investment environment. — VNS

True, the cost in CN-Thai will rise much higher cos they r not TPP nations.

And we will not be ' the factory of the world'. We will only be' the green factory of TPP group'.

Nihon, from the news two days ago: Japan is running out of butter. key reason: shrinking workforce in agriculture. 200 gram costs 434 Yen (3,30 €). even much higher than in costly Germany, here depending on quality, 200 gram between 0.5 and 1.0 €. in your country everything seems expensive more than elsewhere. it´s lucrative, if Japanese businesses put money in VN companies producing agraproduces and import to the homeland. like Japan, VN is TPP member. and a relatively cheap country. win-win.

Never knew Japan was China's largest foreign investor . Do you have a link/article to prove this bro?

.
in Japan, 60% of farmer incomes come from the state. assuming, Japan reduces the subsidy by half, $25 billion can be freed and invested elsewhere.

Their largest investor, indeed. Mind you that number posted is just in Mainland; that does not consider our investments in Hongkong or Taiwan. Hong Kong, alone, is quite voluminous.
