25 More F-35s for Israel

US has nearly 200 F-22s that would be used to swot away enemy planes first. F-22 production line can be restarted in the future if required. US simply has no need to produce any more at this stage.

The F-35 is designed to go in AFTER the F-22 clears the skies of enemy planes.

I repeat only a fool would buy this, unless they were given it for free or are US allies and doing it for other political/military benefits.

And i will repeat it to:the US will aquire 2500 + of them.

.
The $3 billion given the Israel from the US can only be spent on stuff manufactured in the US. So pretty much it's the US paying itself for $3 billion in Military Equipment.

Then they should have bought F-18 or F-15 or F-16 Fighters.

I wouldn't buy the F-35 until atleast 10 years after it has been inducted into the US Armed Forces. There are plenty of bugs in this aircraft which will be flushed out when it gets deployed.

Some issues only arise after it has been in service.

Israel has always modified their Jets with Israeli made avionics. The F-35 is not going to be any different.

So the US planning to buy 2500 of them means that it is any good? Strange logic there.

Many countries have made stupid decisions in the past

Not sure if this is a wise purchase by Israel.

These Jets are plagued with problems, rising costs, computer software issues, manufacturing defects, and are constantly being re-tooled.

Israel should have bought the Euro-Fighter Typhoon.

It appears that the Typhoon buyers have severe problem keeping them airworthy.

Eurofighter often grounded, sometimes for years

I smell jealousy from some users.:-)

The Real Cost Of US Support For Israel - $3 Trillion

While it is commonly reported that Israel officially receives some $3 billion every year in the form of economic aid from the U.S. government, this figure is just the tip of the iceberg. There are many billions of dollars more in hidden costs and economic losses lurking beneath the surface. A recently published economic analysis has concluded that U.S. support for the state of Israel has cost American taxpayers nearly $3 trillion ($3 million millions) in 2002 dollars.

"The Costs to American Taxpayers of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: $3 Trillion" is a summary of economic research done by Thomas R. Stauffer. Stauffer's summary of the research was published in the June 2003 issue of The Washington Report on Middle East Affairs...

A good buy indeed. Even the basic version is enough to take out all 4/4.5 gen aircrafts in BVR.

The problem with F-35 is that they decided to introduce all capabilities into one Airframe which has never been done before and absurdidly stupid idea. It was designed to save money by having a similar airframe but will cost a lot more instead.

F-22 is designed to replace the F-15 which is the US Air Superiority Fighter.
F-35 was designed to replace the F-16 which is the US Ground Attack Aircraft. But then they decided that not only will it replace the F-16, but also the F-18 which is the Navy's Fighter and also the Harrier which is the Marines Fighter and the A-10 which is the Army's Ground Attack Fighter.

By asking the F-35 to expand its functionality from replacing the F-16 to replacing the F-18, Harrier and A-10 was to plague it with so many functional and mechancial problems which has doomed its efficeny as an effective fighter.

In other words, it will get swatted out of the sky by any decent 5th generation air-superiority fighter.

Its potential is immence.

But it will take years of additional configuration and tweaks before it performs anywhere its potential.

In the meantime, USA is augmenting its Air Force with new F-15 and F-16 and F-18 which are proven and lethal fighters and who now have advanced electronic systems which will dominate the sky even without the F-35.

F-35 won't be combat ready by 2020 and won't have all the kinks worked out until atleast 2025.

But F-35 is not stealthy like F-22, has relatively low top-speed(less energy for BVR AAMs) and is not as highly manoeuvrable as other fighters due to airframe limitations.

These design limitations simply cannot be ironed out.

great, buy USA weapons from USA Tax payers Money ... Awesome :D
You have to understand the cycle-
USA Tax payers money when it is used to buy US weapons the money goes back into the US not into the pockets of tax payers but in the pockets of big defence corporations- in the end the common amrikan suffer- Capitalism at its best-
