Patna: To improve Indo-British partnership, as many as 25,000 students from the United Kingdom (UK) will come to India to get study and work experience over the next five years, a senior British high commission official said here on Wednesday.
"The British Council has announced a new programme called 'Generation UK' which aims to bring 25,000 UK students to India over the next five years. The objective of this initiative is to promote India as a destination to gain study and work experience, offer mutually beneficial placements that will give UK's young people a chance to develop employability skills and support the internationalization of Indian companies and academic institutions," Andrew Soper, minister counsellor (political and press) in British high commission at New Delhi, said.
To a question how the UK students will benefit by studying in Indian academic institutions when they have world-class universities in the UK, Soper said there are a number of good educational institutions in India too, which can help the UK students. Besides, the UK students would come here also for work experience to enhance their employability in India as well as global market. He said the British Council recently launched an India Employability Survey-2014, which provides insights into emerging employability trends that will help universities prepare graduates for jobs in an increasingly globalized world.
Pointing out that the UK and India share a well-established, broad-ranging and expanding partnership in education sector, Soper said in recent years the UK dignitaries had visited India with a specific goal to explore further opportunity to broaden partnership in education sector. Education remains a key plank of bilateral relations between the two nations, he said.
