CPC has given up hope on any indigenous Taiwanese political forces that can push for peaceful unification. Actually the closest chance of peaceful unification is end of Chiang Ching Kuo rule.

Then quite suddenly Chiang died of diabetes when he seems appear to advocate more integration with China. A lot of people in Taiwan suspects CIA murdered Chiang.

I sure hope he will step down in 5 years time, by then he should have laid solid foundations for his major initiatives such as anti-corruption, anti-poverty, anti-pollutions, new green techs transformations, shared common prosperity and BRI. He will be too old and maybe unhealthy after 5 years still to lead China. I am against for life leadership as Mao was, but I think Xi should be given another term considering this particular time and his relatively good performance in last 10 years. If all goes as planned, China 5 years from now should be set on a good course after some sort of transformation under Xi. And, maybe reunification with Taiwan will be achieved in his next 5 years.
