Ten years ... im sure China need 10x years time, there will be 40+ modern DDGs (above 052C) and 40+ modern FFGs (above 054A), DOUBLE warships in PLAN military ports.

She also lack LHD. I dont know why they keep delaying and delaying the construction. LHD is more versatile than carriers for power projection and humanitarian assistance. Yes, LHD may lack the firepower of carrier wings. But given the lack of clash between major power. Smaller intensity warfare for China is more possible and gunship fitted onboard these LHD can gives them decent power projection firepower. While LHD is able to land heavy armour and marines unlike CV who cant do that.

China needs to quickly build at least 2 LHD bigger than the Mistral class, something like Juan Carlos

yeah you made a good point , China should have LHD's along with Carriers ...but so far what i see that China focus on his DDG's and Sub fleet , and even one A/C with good DDG's in Battle group can do a lot more damage , and so far Chinese Subs are all AIP which makes them real quite ...
but i think China should give more attention to A/C and LHD after 2016 or more maybe ...
because without proper cover , any A/C is nothing but sitting ducks

My personal thinking, compared current PLAN warships rank with World of Tank.

• 053H-class FFG (28x) == BT-2

• 051-class DDG (6x,1 retired) == KV

• 056-class covettes (16x) == T-34-76

• 056A-class covettes (2x with towing anti-sub sonar, more building) == T-34-85

• 054-class FFG (only 2x) == IS-I

• 054A-class FFG (20x) == IS-2

• 052C-class DDG (6x) == IS-3

• 052D-class DDG(2x, many building in shipyard) == IS-4

• 055-class DDG (unknow numbers, prepare for building) == IS-7

1. No '152' commissioned pic yet, but news said 5th 052C '152' had joint PLAN East Sea Fleet in 2014.6.27

2. Correct. One 051 DGG N.o163 "NanChang / 南昌" retired in 2010.03, now only still 6x 051 in PLAN. It's 1st DDG named by my hometown city, as far as i knew next years a new 052D will name "NanChang / 南昌" again.

Yes.......'cnleio'..........i had seen that someone had added a commissioning date for 052C '152', on wiki............BUT where did they get that from?......as there has been no information from Chinese websites that this event has occurred. Though it does appear to be long overdue, if '152' hasnt joined the fleet, as the vessel has been completed with its pennant number now for several months. Also the last vessel in class '153' must be due also to join the fleet soon...........maybe the Chinese Navy is not in a rush to find and train crews for these vessels.
Also, some of the latter 054A Frigates are taking longer than the earlier vessels in class to commission.
Basically, 2014 has seen many 056 Corvettes join the fleet...........but not Destroyers and Frigates.

I think China has a new 20,000 LPD project like France Mistral-class

It's Okay, maybe they take a long time to train new crews on new 052C/D and 054A, PLAN need thousand new crews coz recent years many 052C/D and 054A built by CSSC. Anyway new warships finished, when join Navy is just a time problem.

Its easy to say you want 50+ destroyer, its easy to build themtoo, but where do you find dock for them is another problem.

Ships need resupply, and they cannot be underway forever, China only have 2 giant naval base and 4 to 6 resupply base in between their single coastline. Either in tsingtao or hainan is deep enough to support carrier operation.

Unless Chinese Navy develope a large underway resupply force, or starting to get new base somewhere You can build 50 destroyer and 60 frigate, but you would have no space to dock it..

I dont think PLAN is going to build a navy as large as US. It just the media hype. China learn from US mistake, that is not too have a navy which appetite too big. The USN fleet eats up lots of military budget.

I think we may go for only 14DDG (Type 052C/D) and opt for 14 Type055 cruiser and 36 Modern frigate plus 3 CV and LHD will be a navy strong enough but not a big money guzzler.

ZERO, currently no any permanent base plan.

I think the reason is PLAN still weak and lack enough numbers of modern DDG.
