So these 2 temples comes under Phase II.

Is that location congested ?

Extremely sad incident. Wish they were relocated.

ASI do have the equipment and even the technology to relocate. Is that temple area congested ?

yeah these temples come under phase 2 and were located in the middle of the road....have been the cause of jams in the city for years as roads inside the walled city are not broad enough...i dunno y they were not relocated and instead were destroyed

Can anyone post pictures or videos of that location ?

If its inside the walled city then this might have been the reason for not being relocated.

RSS calls Raje 'Aurangzeb' for temple demolition

The Vasundhara Raje-led BJP government in Rajasthan is on a collision course with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) over the demolition of 86 big and small temples by local administration and Metro authorities in Jaipur.

The RSS and other Hindu outfits have called a two-hour “Chakka Jam” on Thursday to register strong protest, adding to the woes of the state government, which is already plagued by the Lalit Modi controversy.

RSS leaders and Hindu organisations have compared the present BJP government with Mughal ruler Aurangzeb, who had demolished several temples. Strong protests by the RSS have, however, prodded the government into action.

“We are in constant touch with RSS leaders. The state government is confident of resolving the issue within a few days,” said Medical and Health Minister Rajendra Rathore.

On the directives of the Supreme Court over illegal religious structures, the local administration has demolished or relocated at least 86 big and small temples over the past few months in Jaipur.

Seven temples were razed in the Walled City area during construction of Phase 1B of Jaipur Metro. Many of these temples, including the Rojgareshwar Mahadev and Kashtharan Mahadev temples, are believed to be over 200 years old. Their demolition invited the wrath of local residents and RSS leadership.

After announcing “Chakka Jam” protest, the RSS also summoned over a dozen BJP legislators, Jaipur MPs and BJP office-bearers of Jaipur city, and pulled them all up for being “mute spectators”.

They were also told a detail report in this matter would be send to the RSS headquarters in Nagpur.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje called an emergency meeting of officials and legislators to discuss the issue. Raje reportedly pulled up officials asking why she was not informed about the demolition of temples.

She also directed officials not to raze any more temples without the permission of local legislator and the urban development minister. The officials, however, said the demolition and relocation drive was undertaken on directions from the apex court.

However, there is strong resentment among BJP workers over the demolition of temple. After their statements to local leaders and the state government went unheeded, they reportedly took the matter to the RSS, saying the drive was earning the government and the party a bad name.

“All nine Assembly constituencies in Jaipur city have BJP legislators. The Mayor is a BJP man, and the party is in power in the municipal council. But no one is ready to react on our complaints,” said Gautam Sharma, A BJP worker in Walled City area.

India got too many temples. If it was upto me, I will destroy all temples and mosque(they are not mosque some gree colour dargah type structure) that prop up everywhere, and block traffic. Hindus are bigger violators of course, wherever they see old tree, or a hill top, or govt space, they build a mini temple. And suddenly city authorities cant touch it.

Why was the temple not shifted ? why was it demolished ? As per law the temple land belongs to the deity and hence cannot be seized, so I am guessing that the temple was an illegal one.

It is in poor taste to celebrate this as if it is an great achievement. Any moron can destroy a temple and many of them have.

We do not need to shift the whole temple. Deities can be shifted into a newly built temple...

Well, 200 yrs old is definitely not handed over to ASI for sure. They are pretty much resource strapped as it is. We can do it if we want to preserve architecture or things like that, but I highly doubt projects would be made to disturb such historical sites. It has been done in one case where a dam was about to submerge a temple and whole of konark sun temple was shifted to current location from the ruins, stone by stone. If you see the picture in OP, the temple itself seems to be newly built using concrete.

Just build some new temples in a sparsely populated locale. I respect the right of all peoples to practice their faith. Such old temples can be conserved instead of destroyed. I remember in some town in Denmark - they had layers of development. So all new development happened over the old city. If someone wanted, at various vantage points there were transparent glasses on the floor where you could glimpse what the city was like 50-60 years ago.

This is the reason i have said that its more or less depends on the situation on ground and the Government is well aware how to handle such situations.

Take em down boys! Too many temples and masjids in India. At least 90% of them need to go.

I think the real meaning of ghar wapsi is understanding about our ancestors without forgetting our religions.
