It suppresses clear thinking and conscience. Which would also explain the unnaturally high rate of violent crimes in the Western hemisphere, considering massive social development.

Opium is illegal in most Eastern countries and also the use of opium in medicines are also banned.

It's been made illegal recently. It's use is quite old.
