Military officials in eastern Nangarhar province announced on Wednesday that 20 insurgents were killed and 18 others injured during an operation in the Shirzad district of the province.
According to a statement released by the 201st Selab Military Corps, the operation codenamed- "Shaheen 19" (Falcon 19) was launched on Tuesday jointly by the Afghan National Army (ANA), Afghan National Police (ANP), and National Directorate of Security (NDS).
One Afghan soldier was reportedly killed and two
others were injures. Ten others insurgents were arrested including three foreign nationals. No civilians casualties were documented.
There are over 350,000 Afghan soldiers fighting
the insurgents across Afghanistan. Foreign troops are due to leave Afghanistan by the end of 2014, after handing over full security responsibility to the Afghan forces.
Although coalition officials maintain that nearly all operational oversight has been handed over to Afghans already.
