2 Pakistani aircraft detected flying close to Indian air space: IAF

Two Pakistani aircraft today flew close to the international border in the Jammu sector, triggering an air defence alert of the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The two low-flying Pakistani light aircraft were detected close to Indian territory and were sighted by BSF troops deployed in the RS Pura Sector in Jammu, IAF sources said.

"Their movement and approach were picked up by our sensors and radars," they said.

Thought the aircraft were flying in Pakistani territory, it was a breach of agreement between the two sides barring flying of fixed-wing aircraft in 10km area from each side of the international boundary, they said.

"As per its Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), IAF responds in such situation looking at the level of threat posed by the aircraft," they said, without giving details.

The SOP could range from activating its surface-to-air missile batteries to scrambling of fighter aircraft located close to the area.

Assets such as the airborne early warning and control systems (AWACS) and the aerostat radars and chain of ground-based radars allows the IAF to look beyond its boundaries.

The issue, the sources said, would also be taken up with Pakistani authorities through the external affairs ministry.

In the last three years, Pakistan's military aircraft, helicopters and spy drones or unmanned aerial vehicles have violated Indian airspace on 23 occasions.

How come this be a violation when the aircraft were flying inside the territory..... just shows the maturity of indians.

Its against the agreement between India-pakistan that that both sides will not take fixed wing aircraft (if u know what it is) near the international boundary.

Don't expect spoon feeding every time.

Stupid rant! takes place all the time. Hell we flew inside their airspace a lot of times. Our media needs to hold its horses. They tend to sensationalize everything.

There is no such agreement between the two sides.

As this was not a violation so mentioning this figure doesn't really prove anything.

How about the times the Indian planes REALLY violated the Pak airspace.?

Then why didn't they enter it?
:coffee:

This is not International boundary but ceasefire line or Line of control (770KM).:what:

The term Line of Control (LOC) refers to the military control line between the Indian- and Pakistani-controlled parts of the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir—a line which, to this day, does not constitute a legally recognized international boundary but is the de facto border. Originally known as the "Cease-fire Line", it was redesignated as the "Line of Control" following the Simla Agreement, which was signed on 3 July 1972. The part of the former princely state that is under Indian control is known as the State of Jammu and Kashmir. The two parts of the former princely state that are under Pakistani control are known as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). Its northern most point is known as the NJ9842.

Another cease-fire line, one that separates the Indian-controlled state of Jammu and Kashmir from the Chinese-controlled area known as Aksai Chin, lies further to the east and is known as the Line of Actual Control (LAC)
.

Assets such as the airborne early warning and control systems (AWACS) and the aerostat radars and chain of ground-based radars allows the IAF to look beyond its boundaries.
