Two CRPF personnel, including an officer, were killed in a militant attack in Sangam area of Anantnag district on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway today, police said.

Militants attacked a CRPF picket at Hatmulla in Sangam area, around 40 km from here, this afternoon, a police officer said.

"Two CRPF personnel were martyred in the militant attack," he said.

The deceased have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Omkar Singh and Constable Tilak Raj, he added.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to track down the militants, the officer said, adding, further details of the incident are awaited.

I thought CPRF were responsible in the North East and Kashmir was more for the BSF/Army?

Then you thought wrong.

Internal security duties are the responsibility of the state police and CAPF, both in the NE and J&K. This includes patrol duties, pickets, barricades etc. The army only undertakes reactive/proactive counter insurgency operations through the RR & S.F, under the unified command set-up in the state. At all other times, they remain in their barracks.

In addition, the army has no presence in Sri Nagar, and any and all operations in the city are led exclusively by the SOG/CRPF combine.

On topic: RIP to the dead. Casualties, no matter how heartrending, will be inevitable. However given the pitiful rate of attrition exacted by the donkeys, malaria, heart attack and accidents have a better chance of "freeing" Kashmir from the Indian government.

Incompetence of these donkeys is well, legendary.

Anger among paramilitary CRPF jawans was evident today as no political leader showed up at the wreath laying ceremony of their colleagues who were killed in a militant attack in Anantnag district.

As officers and jawans of the CRPF and state police bid a tearful adieu to the two men slain yesterday, rage overtook grief as some personnel from the paramilitary force hit out at the politicians for their absence at the event.

"We lay our life for the country, but there is no value. No politician turned up for the ceremony," a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan said on the condition of anonymity.
He said someone from the government should have represented the state to pay homage to the deceased.

"They died for the country, for the security of the people. Someone (politician) should have been here," he added.

However, Inspector General of Police, CRPF, Atul Karwal, defied such sentiments saying that the presence of the politicians was "not material".

"I feel we have the support of the political hierarchy. The presence is not material as much as is the support we need and we feel we have that. DGP (state police K Rajendra Kumar) is here," he said.

Now this is a genuine concern. All the counter-insurgency operations are undertaken by the CRPF. Whenever there is an issue, it's the CRPF that goes in first. But their plight gets overlooked many a times.

As responsible citizens of the country we need to do something about it.

No bro unlike other countries our Army officials are just for tv interviews and pulling small kids fallen in deep bore-well. Rest all work is done by paramilitary, C.R.P.F. and B.S.F.

Indian Army is little busy here whining for new defence procurements.
