What's new

1st January 1987, The Inception Day of Pakistan Maritime Security Agency .

.
Hi,

Can anybody shed light on the structure of Pakistan naval / maritime forces.

As far as I know, Other countries normally have two forces:
1- Navy : For deep ocean / fighting adversary naval forces / force projection
2- Coast Guards: For maritime patrol, catching illegal entries, smugglers etc.

But Pakistan have 3:
1- Navy
2- Pakistan Maritime Security Agency
(Same as other countries Coast Guards?)
3- Pakistan Coast Guards (This one looks odd, as its 10,000 men force and under Pakistan Army)

Should Pakistan Coast Guard & PMSA not be merged to have better command & control / management for the shores / seas / ports or shore facilities ?

@Bilal Khan (Quwa) @Tipu7 or feel free to give input anyone. Thanks

Coast guard strength is less than 10 thousands , plus Coast guard come under Ministry of Interior .

Proposals for merging Coast Guards in PMSA have been discussed several times, and operationally it's a sensible thing to do so.
But this idea has been rejected by Army every time as they want Coast Guards under their influence. Both forces coexist as separate entities despite having significant overlapping functionality.

In brief,
Coast Guards are meant for low end coastal and landward security duties. While PMSA is meant for sea ward defense, sea policing, and Maritime law enforcement, and other non traditional security duties.

PMSA, Coast Guards should be merged into Pakistan Marines. It should become a 4th independent service branch.

Having so many clustered outfits for a single job is inefficient use of national resources.
