1984 riots: Sikh body files plaint against Amitabh Bachchan in Australia

JALANDHAR: A criminal complaint has been filed against Amitabh Bachchan in Australia seeking action against the actor for his alleged role in inciting and instigating violence against the Sikh community in Delhi following Indira Gandhi's assassination in November 1984. The complaint has been filed by Sikhs for Justice group just ahead of the actor taking up the role of TV commentator during India-Pakistan match to be played at the ICC Cricket World Cup beginning in Adelaide on February 15.

The fresh complaint, which was lodged with Commonwealth attorney-general senator George Brandis on February 11, urges investigation and prosecution of Bachchan for inciting and instigating violence. International Criminal Court Act 2002 has also been invoked in the complaint that is supported by witnesses Ajmer Singh Randhawa and Delhi resident Babu Singh Dukhia on behalf of widows, victims and survivors of violence that ensued after Gandhi was killed by her Sikh bodyguards.

It is pertinent to mention here that a similar complaint filed in Australia with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions in October 2011 had failed to attract any action and was rendered infructuous after Bachchan returned from there. At that time, he was in Australia for shooting Hollywood movie 'Great Gatsby' co-starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

"Commonwealth has extra-territorial jurisdiction over crimes against humanity and genocide committed anywhere in the world," said SFJ legal advisor Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

Initially, Congress and its politicians had claimed that the US courts held no jurisdiction at all in such complaints, but had then started appearing through their counsels. US-based lawyer of Indian origin, Ravi Batra has been successfully defending them so far.

FYI Amitabh Bachchan's mother Teji Bachchan was herself a Sikh and was born into a Khatri Sikh Punjabi family.

And for the rest - A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed for re-investigation of the 1984 anti-Sikh riot casesand has been has been empowered to examine afresh evidence in cases which had even been closed. It has been given six months to complete its work, including filing of charge sheets in nearly three-decade old cases.

The government had recently provided additional Rs. 5 lakh compensation to the kin of Sikhs killed in the 1984 riots, which claimed 3,325 persons.

Sounds like a publicity stunt. I am not sure what percentage of Sikhs today would do a facepalm if they read this news

. . .
what would they do to the 5 lakh when you pm wore 50 lakh of suite ............

(01) According to unconfirmed sources the Indian media had put the price of his suit at Rupees 10 Lac. - not sure if the Pakistani media exaggerated it to Rupees 50 Lac.

(02) The Prime Minster of India has an annual salary of Rupees 20 Lac. - He can very well afford the suit and it's entirely up to him as to what he chooses to wear.

(03) Former President Asif Ali Zardari has a personal wealth of some $1.8 Billion and the incumbent Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif has a personal wealth of $1.4 Billion - I wonder what "suit" they wear.

(04) How much compensation have the Hindu, Christian, Ahmedi and Shia families have received ever since their routine persecution in Pakistan since 1947?

(05) Why don't you just mind your own business?

Three-member SIT to probe 1984 anti-Sikh riot cases - The Hindu

You are a strange one, it not about rupees or about closed cases, it is about justice and about cunning ways of Indians for closing those cases knowing that many Hindu leaders will be convicted and closed it without justice, sounds like kangaroo courts. this is what India is, a very cunning society and agree to what ever is done to minorities.

About Babri mosque, about hanging of Afzal Kashmiri, about Gujarat riots list goes on and on.

.
Funny thing is that Amitabh got his *** beat by hinduvatis when he tried to go visit bal thakeray.

Why was he trying to visit him and why would they attack him?

(01) In Delhi, 442 of the rioters were convicted by the courts. 49 of these were sentenced to the life imprisonment, and another three to imprisonment of more than 10 years. 6 Delhi Police officers were punished for lapses during the riots. In April 2013, the Supreme Court of India dismissed the appeal of three convicts who had challenged the High Court's decision to award them life sentence.

These were the results of the two SIT's formed by the erstwhile Congress government and since a new SIT has been recently formed and will deliver its report in 6 months - expect many more to behind the bars.

(02) In the 2002 Gujarat riots - As of April 2013 249 convictions had been secured, 184 Hindus and 65 Muslims. 31 of the Muslim convictions were for the Train incident in Godhra.

The Indian Supreme Court has been strongly critical of the state government's investigation and prosecution of those accused of violence during the riots, directing police to review about 2,000 of the 4,000 riot-related cases that had been closed citing lack of evidence or leads. Following this direction, police identified nearly 1,600 cases for re-investigation, arrested 640 accused and launched investigations against 40 police officers for their failures.

(03) Mohammad Afzal Guru was a TERRORIST and was rightfully given death sentence in India for his role in the December 2001 terrorist attack on the Indian Parliament. The fact that S. A. R Geelani was acquitted is enough to reflect the transparency of the case.

(04) Now I would like to know the ststus of the following cases in the land of pure-
>> 1964 East Pakistan Genocide
>> 1953 Lahore riots
>> 2007 Karachi riots
>> 2010 Karachi riots
>>July and August 2011 Karachi targeted killings
>> Ashoura violence and so on - the list never ends.

(05) And again how much compensation have the Hindu, Christian, Ahmedi and Shia families have received ever since their routine persecution in Pakistan since 1947? It might not be about rupees but how about not compensating the the families who lost their near and dear ones?
