There is hard way and a soft way to spread a religion. The hard way is by the sword to the neck and the soft way is teaching it. if islam spread by the sword i promise many today Muslims would be converting back to their original religion. Think about it, a dalit would look forward to convert to islam due to he be free from the diabolical caste system or the one that is forced to pay breast tax or serve the upper caste brahmin. In islam everyone is more or less are equal. The sufis came to the indian sub continent and taught islam and there was conversions.Pakistan became a predominantly Muslim region well before the partition due to continuous invasions by Afghans, Arabs, Turks, and Persians. However, it's important to note that if the British hadn't arrived, Pakistan would have once again become a Hindu-majority region. At the time of British arrival, the Marathas were ruling over present-day Pakistan.
