The National Assembly on Friday passed a bill giving legal and constitutional cover to the centuries old jirga and panchayat systems in the country with a view to ensure speedy resolution of petty civil matters and reduce the burden of litigations on the courts.

Jirga system in itself is one of the best system ... The issue with the people here ...

There is a need of formalizing and institutionalising this system and run under gov supervision ..

Improvements could be like :

1. registration of jirga
2. Approval of jirga system people by gov
3. Criteria for selection of jirga member (there could be multiple members and for every case selection could me random)
4. Defining the scope of jirga (ofz, murder rape and other serious crime should not be part of jirga)
5. Official documentation and approval of the penalty by commissioner of the district

So in other developed countries, we can also see the modern form of Jirga named as jury ...

I admire your hope, but, sadly, the reality is that this incident will fade away from the public mind while the victim suffers a lifelong sentence, just like so many others before her.

Hope dies last.
There is no mention if this girl was admitted to a trauma center or what are the provisions to counter the harassment they will receive since the village elders were involved in this.
Both families cannot be relocated and the suffering will continue well past into the next generation.

Pakistanis turn a blind eye when action is required but remember tiny puny details when mudslinging starts. While we complain about the smell coming from our neighbours we have closets full of decaying skeletons in our home as well.
