2018 was a relatively smaller year for China's high-speed railway industry.
There were very few major routes inaugurated.
A total of 17 high-speed railways, including those upgraded on old railways and so-called "rapid railways", opened to the public in 2018.

One of the most important HSRs is the new 350km/h Qingdao-Jinan line, connecting two biggest cities of Shandong Province, which is China's 3rd largest economy of 1-trillion-dollar.

This line intersects with Beijing-Shanghai HSR
in the great ancient city of Jinan, the capital of the province.
