PUNE: Fugitive ISI agent Syed Mohammad Desai, wanted by the authorities here for deportation back to Pakistan, might have entered Hyderabad after leaving Pune and Satara, sources in the police said on Tuesday.

The clue to Desai's whereabouts was obtained by investigating officers when they took ex-Armyman Shailesh Jadhav, arrested over the weekend for an alleged nexus with ISI, to his (Jadhav's) house in Satara, a neighbouring district in western Maharashtra, on Monday.

Jadhav (29), an old acquaintance of Desai, had allegedly provided a hide-out for the latter, who escaped from police custody in Pune on January 23 when officials were processing his deportation formalities hassled by an apathetic attitude of the Pakistani embassy.

The 50-year-old Desai's family resides in Pakistan. Desai was released by a local court after completing his seven-year jail term on conviction in a 1999 case of espionage in which he is believed to have passed on classified information regarding the Khadki Ordnance Factory here to Pakistan's secret agency
