maybe Bangladesh should learn something from Indonesian tourism board. Our Borobudur, Kuta-Besakih Bali, Prambanan, Mount Tengger is a popular tourist spot in the world, all of them are Hindhu-Buddhist cultural objects.

In Indonesia case, they promote many Buddhist and Hindu cultural activities alongside the structures themselves (I have been to them and it was quite a well conducted and organised affair...and you can see the time and effort that has gone into it....plus general Indonesian openness to their pre-Islamic history and living side by side with such local cultures today). Bali people are Hindu to begin with. Indonesia has multiple official state religions, so it is quite possible to leverage that advantage in such things.

Many Bangladeshis however simply think people are going to visit such places with no change to their status quo regarding religion and cultural spaces that are not Islamic. So it remains to be seen if any Buddhist circuit can develop in any meaningful way.

Not gonna happen, Bangladesh will be a modern moderate MUSLIM nation with a secular constitution. You can keep dreaming but that's what it will stay a dream.

Bangladesh has a major image problem, though. I mean, when I think of Indo, the first thing I think of is shadow puppets. Indo has been through the same flooding and natural disasters and what not and it has its fair share of poverty but I think of shadow puppets. I don't know whether that's coincidental or it's because of a concerted government effort but it's there. Whereas BD makes me think of sweatshops. Before that flooding and starvation. Islamic extremism comes next. Probably because that's just what makes the news headlines. I presume it's the same for Westerners too.

Absolutely no chance. There's no way Burmese tourists would come to BD and highly unlikely Thais would either. That leaves only Sri Lankans really and I doubt there'd be strong demand to visit this ahead of Gaya.

Yet we get more than 20 billion USD from tourism last year, and you are aiming for 200 million as the future target.

You should be getting 3 billion by now if you are on same per capita level as us.

well we are very open, even we hold many animism and pagan festival in Papua and Kalimantan Islands to preserve local cultures and attract more tourist. The only thing we must consider a threat is the pace of our Industrialization and urban cultures accompanying them.

I'm confused at this statement are you saying we need a large Buddhist population for more tourist attention, what about your country? Do Buddhists tourists not visit India? And our Buddhist population by percentage qre the same.

no, you not need to have a large buddhist and hindhu population to attract tourist, what you are need is the acceptance of your heritage and local culture to preserve them both in your people minds and acts. The unique and tolerance it was what will made your country able to attract more foreign visitors.
