What's new

155mm Panter Howitzer

Why don't Pakistan get the automated units from Turkish armed forces ? Its more useful due to its auto load and shot capabilities

Do you mean the Firtina ?

I don't if Turkey have selling Right for Firtina to third Countries, Firtina is the turkish Version of South Korean SPH K-9 Thunder. Firtina is equipt with turkish Fire Controll System and Electronics.

I think that would meet Pakistan's need for modernization if we get 50-100 of these Firtana type - may be get rid of some older tools in our armed forces

We mostly produced the barrels of our howitzer programs under a foreign licence so We must concantrate on developing indigenous barrel systems in order to integrate to the future versions of our programs.

T-155 Firtina 155mm 52 Calibre Barrel= Korean Licence
T-155 Panter 155mm 52 Calibre Barrel= Singapore Licence

With this purpose, MKEK and SSM have signed an agreement to develop a domestic 105mm barrel system to use for Light Weight Howitzer program.

-Besides, 120mm barrels will also be developed by Turkish MKEK with technological assistance of S. Korea.

After Those programs, I think We can see a 155mm 52 calibre indigenous barrel system developed by Turkish institues as well...

i think this can be a good replacement for our old 130 mm towed artillery(M-46)acquired from PLA

The ones Pakistan acquired are probably in service right now and most likely replaced the 130mm set ups.

Planeman talked about them in his guide comparing it to the Bofors India operates.

"Until the advent of the Panter, the Bofors was by far the most advanced and capable towed piece on the border. It has large stocks of extended range ammunition, is self-mobile and relatively automated for increased crew efficiency. That situation is changing."

"The Panter has a significantly longer barrel (52Cal vs 39Cal) providing greater range. In general all artillery pieces can fire various guided and extended range rounds so quoted ranges should be taken with a grain of salt. If the Panter is employed with HE Base-bleed rounds then stated range is 40km, about 10km further than the 39Cal Bofors with similar ammunitions. This would allow Pakistan to station its guns many km further from the front, and for each howitzer battery to cover a wider sector allowing either fewer deployed batteries or for the same strength, greater engagement envelope overlap."

what could be price of each T-155mm panter/T-155 firtina unit ?

This weapon is a sitting duck from air / helicopter raids unless it can move or is supplimented with Surface to air systems its not ideal

Pakistan need this complete automatic system like Crusedor that can shoot and run , and move to avoid detection shoots 8+ rounds

YouTube - Crusader vs Paladin

I was personally expecting something techologically advace as this crusader system

This Pantar is ... k ... but very risky unlesss there is a solid surface to air defence

Why can't this gun be mounted on a AlKhalid - to move it around in battle field???
IMO the Panter is designed to fire and escape rapidly it can also operate on terrain the Firtina would have serious difficulty in. So it is not as vulnerable as you would think.

Consider the above if an opposing army requires the deployment of spotters to paint targets for aircraft, and anyway are not all vehicles inherently vulnerable to aircraft?

is panter a JV btween turkey pak?
The Panter has already been developed in Turkey with the help of Singapore. It could however have a future in a joint Turk-Pak venture to supply the Pakistan army with locally produced Panters.

The ones at the start ? Those are threads which are used for the breech plug to screw into which inturn seals the breech providing a gas proof seal. You can see part of the breech plug if you look at the top part of the picture.

Also refer to this for a better view of the mechanism.

The 155mm Panter is also used in conjunction with the Baiks-2000 by Aselsan.

Which provides accurate firing coordinates and support for a full artillery battery.
