Itanagar: As part of a soft power exchange programme and continuing the high-level defence cooperation between the Armed forces of India and Bangladesh, 15 middle-level officers of the Indian Army along with their spouses visited Bangladesh from July 6 to 12 this year.

“The visit was aimed to enhance military co-operation and people-to-people contact in the backdrop of our enriched common cultural heritage and will go a long way in enhancing co-operation and inter-operability between the two Armies,” a defence spokesperson said.

The Indian Army delegation members were airlifted from Kolkata on July 6 by a service aircraft of Bangladesh Army. The tour was a significant milestone in the history of bilateral relations as 15 mid-level officers of the Indian Army, accompanied by their spouses, visited Bangladesh. The visit is reciprocal in nature, as 25 young couples of Bangladesh Army had earlier visited Delhi, Agra and Kolkata from November 26 to December 2 last year.

During the visit, the delegation interacted with senior officers of the Bangladesh Army, the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, and mid-level officers of Bangladesh Army. Apart from various official engagements, the delegation also visited Bijoyketon Museum, National Parliament, Cox’s Bazar, Proyash, Liberation War Museum, and a few other places of cultural interest. The Indian Army delegation arrived in Kolkata on July 12 by a service aircraft of Bangladesh Army.

OK guys can we stop the crabbing about spouses? Spouses are important non-combatants, child-bearers, amateur psychologists and nutrition-providers. Most of all, they deserve everyone's respect. Let's leave it at that.

This was a firti-dawat because Indian Army had invited Bangladeshi Army spouses earlier to India.
