15 kilograms of heroin has been recovered from PIA flight PK-7121, a company spokesperson said on Wednesday.
The opiate stash was hidden in a secret compartment in the airplane.
The search operation team comprised PIA security and customs officials, Airport Security Force, and Anti-Narcotics Force.
PIA CEO Bernd Hildenbrand has ordered immediate inquiry into the matter. The top executive added that strict action should be taken against those responsible for the opiate stash.
The incident adds to PIA’s continuous streak of bad luck, after one of its flights PK-661 crashed in Havelian two weeks back, and another in Heathrow was postponed due to technical issues. Last week, yet another one from Jeddah left behind passengers’ luggage.
In addition, people took to social media earlier to ridicule PIA’s action to slaughter a black goat near a ATR turboprop aircraft, images of which had surfaced online. While this made matters worse for the airline company as it falls deeper into the pit of misfortune, spokesman Danyal Gilani explained in response that it was an act of staff’s gratefulness.
