'14,000 Fata men to join Pakistan Army' - Pakistan - DAWN.COM

RAWALPINDI: The military chief on Monday announced an uplift scheme for the residents of the volatile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), promising induction in army ranks as well as education and employment opportunities.

An Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement issued today quoted the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif as saying that the policy titled 'Fata Youth Package' will induct into the army 14,000 men from the region over the course of next five years. The total strength of the military's active troops is over 500,000.

According to the ISPR, the package also entails free education to 1,500 Fata children through army public schools and colleges in all cantonments, with reserved seats for Fata students in military cadet colleges on a yearly basis.

The army will also work to enhance technical skills among the Fata youth through technical training institutes, adding that arrangements are already being worked upon for their overseas employment, the statement said.

The troubled mountainous area has been a hideout for years for militants of all stripes — including al-Qaeda and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan as well as foreign fighters.

General Raheel spent the first half of Eid-ul-Azha offering prayers with troops at Wana and later flew to Miranshah to meet the troops participating in the ongoing operation Zarb-i-Azb in North Waziristan. He later proceeded to Bannu, where displaced Fata residents have been living since mid-June.

He expressed satisfaction over the outcome of the operation thus far. "With this level of determination shown by the army and the people of Pakistan, there is no doubt that we will root out the cancer of terrorism from our country forever," the ISPR statement quoted the army chief as saying.

“Pakistan Army will work hand in glove to garner maximum support for relief and early rehabilitation of the IDPs," he added.

Good news :D

Well really good move but the problem is first we need to answer basic mistake off sending Army into Tribal areas first place than we need to get rid off USA and NATO and finally we need to implement Islam otherwise we may be able to end TTP but we would soon face ISIS type off thing

What mistake???? I don't get you dude........... we didn't send the Army against our people........ we sent the army there to clear mostly the foreign scumbags and their local collaborators........... when that's done, we are obviously going to bring our people back into the fold of Pakistan...... this is an excellent move........... after this is done, we also need to build loads of cantonments all over FATA, as these cantonments also provide indirect opportunities to locals, in addition to infrastructure upgrade of all sorts.

These are our people, who've been neglected for way too long. I say, no more development of Lahore / Islamabad / Karachi, unless and until all of these disfranchised areas are brought to the same level as any other developed city of Pakistan. To hell with more metros and amusement parks.

GO NAWAZ GO! :D

The Army has done his part even in this area, whats about the Government responsibility !

Along with this there should be soft loans for small businessmen, new schools built, improvements in infrastructure (utilities and roads) and so on.

Enlisting thousands into the army is a start, but not the be all and end all.

.
This is a very good news & lets hope the people of FATA are recruited as officers as well.

.
General Raheel Sharif, the chief of staff of the Pakistan Army, announced on 6 October that the army will recruit 14,000 soldiers from the tribal areas along the Afghan border over the next five years.

Speaking to troops during a visit to the region to mark the Eed-ul-Adha festival following the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, Gen Sharif said at least 1,000 of those men will be recruited within the next six months.

The announcement marks the largest planned induction of recruits from the region since the Pakistan Army launched an offensive in mid-June against Taliban militants in the north Waziristan region.

All already a considerable portion of our armed forces is made up of people from FATA, their nos. run in the thousands if not hundreds of thousand. N that has been the case since PAK came into existence.
So let's not make a big deal of this.

make them 50000 and then put them in WOT

NEW DELHI: Devendra Kumar Pathak did not get much sleep on the three nights he spent at the border in Jammu & Kashmir earlier this week. Besides being alongside his men inside border outposts as bullets rained across the frontier, the director-general of Border Security Force (BSF) got encouraging calls from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, exhorting him to return fire with fire.

Pathak, in the twilight of his long career in the Indian Police Service, much of which has been spent fighting terrorism and insurgency in Jammu & Kashmir and Assam, is now the man fighting Modi's 'war' with Pakistan on the international border. Although cross-border violations are nothing new, the sheer intensity has made many rate the ongoing skirmish as the worst in a decade.

And much of the action this time has been along the international border, which BSF guards, rather than the Line of Control (LoC) overseen by the army.

"We have decided we will give Pakistan a thrashing for their misadventure this time. We have given them a very solid pounding and the loss on the other side is very heavy," Pathak told ET on Friday. "We have fired many more times the rounds Pakistan has fired. They have been silenced."
