$130 BILLION USD for high speed rail construction in 3 years

Today, China announced the three years plan to invest 900 BILLION Yuan (130 Billion USD) in the next three years to build the world's largest high speed rail network.

In the next three years China will see 26,000 km railways put into use, among them 9,200 km high-speed, Minister of Railways Liu Zhijun said during the 2010 National Railway Working Conference in January.

The cost for building 1 km of high-speed railway is about 100 million yuan ($14.6 million); the investment in the network for the next three years will amount to more than 900 billion yuan.

At present, more than 40 high-speed railway projects are under construction, sources from the ministry said.

According to the Ministry of Railways' long-term blueprint, China will have four east-west high-speed railway lines and four south-north lines. By that time, the traveling time between neighboring provincial capitals could be reduced to one to two hours, said Lu Dongfu, vice head of the Ministry of Railways.

Well, as of now, unlike 1.3 Billion Chinese, we 1.1 Billion Indians doesnt have enough caliber to pay for ride in a Highspeed train. Right now, we love our slow movin, butt rippin iron snail.

Btw, best wishes to the chinese. Also do care to post the info about ticket cost and common man's average income.

PS: we pay for defence bcoz we dont want the chinese to invade our country and take away our super cool iron locomotives.

I went from Yanzou to Yantai,about 680KM,and six times trains every day with diffirent price:53,43,83,83,94RMB,only 1.3$/100km,and I have a half price as a student

To Chinese members, talk about China, why do you want to highlight anything about India - good or bad. This is a serious forum and you have to learn to treat it as such. There are some great pictures of Chinese railways, and instead of telling us more good things about it, the whole thread was a measuring contest between Indian and Chinese posters.

To the rest, if you engage in offtopic exchanges which result in derailing threads and not report them then you're just as guilty and will be dealt equally.
