JEDDAH A 13-year-old Saudi boy participating in his first radio-controlled aircraft pilots competition stunned spectators with his amazing performance at Take Off Radio Control Club in Jeddah.
Saher Dousoqi, a member of the Saudi national team taking part in the 3rd Arab Remote Control Pilots Tournament, was able to gain the attention of the participants, enthusiasts and organizers with his acrobatic moves.
Dousoqi, who is following in the footsteps of his father, said: My passion with this sport started when I saw my father playing it and it became my favorite hobby ever since. Now, I am representing my country in this championship and I hope one day I will be participating in other regional and international events.
Meanwhile, the skies of Jeddah witnessed marvelous acrobatic maneuvers by top Arab RC airplane pilots.
Mustafa Dia Al-Deen, head of the Egyptian national team, noted that the Egyptian team was considered one of the best teams in the world and they came here in the hope of winning the Arab championship.
He said, Doing acrobatics with an RC airplane is fun but it requires some specific skills and lots of practice. We have 11 members in our team and all of them are considered among the best RC pilots. I believe we can present an amazing show and win the championship.
On the other hand, Abdullah Saad Al-Shahrani, a member of the Saudi team, thinks the Saudi team members are better skilled.
He said: We are aiming to win this championship on our home turf because we believe we have really good talents.
Col. Mubark Al-Swailim, president of the Arab Air Sports Federation, pointed out that the championship is part of the federations agenda to develop this sport.
We hope to expand this tournament and increase the number of participants because it has become an event that many Arab RC pilots and lovers wait for to show off their skills and talents.
Al-Swailim announced that Saudi Arabia would start organizing a local championship gathering the best pilots from all over the Kingdom to select participants for the Asia RC Championship.
Capt. Mohammed Al-Nassar, director of the event, said a closing ceremony would take place on Thursday at Take Off RC club located on Kings Road.
