Agartala: 13 insurgents of outlawed All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) surrendered before the Assam Rifles here today after fleeing from their base camp in neighbouring Bangladesh, police said.

The 13-member group led by self-styled captain Jagadish Debbarma deposited a cache of arms with the DIG of Assam Rifles Brig S T Upasani in presence of DGP Tripura Selim Ali.

They handed over 11 AK-47 rifles, 2 SLR, 2 rifles, live cartridges and 24 kgs of explosives, they said.

The insurgents said they took the decision following heavy crack down by security forces in Bangladesh, non payment of their salaries and crisis of food in the camps, according to police.

It was the biggest surrender of any insurgent group this year along with arms and ammunition, police claimed.13 ATTF insurgents surrender before Assam Rifles

AGARTALA: All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) chief Ranjit Debbarma has been arrested in Bangladesh and "pushed back" to India through the Meghalaya border on Tuesday night. The rebel leader was produced before a local court in Agartala on Wednesday and has been remanded in police custody.

Intelligence sources here said Ranjit was arrested by Bangladesh security officials in Dhaka on December 22. But he was "pushed back" to India along the border with Meghalaya late on Tuesday night.

BSF authorities immediately took Ranjit into custody at the border and handed him over to Meghalaya Police. Tripura Police officers then brought him to Agartala on Wednesday morning. Intelligence sources said Tripura Police had learnt about Ranjit's arrest in the first week of January and had been trying hard to confirm it. Sources said Biswamohan Debbarma, another top rebel leader who heads National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), has also been nabbed near Dhaka, but it could not be officially confirmed.

The ATTF and NLFT are two major militant outfits operating in Tripura
. Ranjit's arrest is bound to demoralize the rank and file of ATTF, which has been demanding secession of Tripura from India. Sources said Ranjit was residing in Dhaka since the last 20 years and was arrested when the elite Rapid Action Battalion had raided his house based on specific information.

Now..see the bold lines, salaries not paid & scarcity of food in camps. Quite amazing that these two issues brought them down to surrender with arms, and here Pakistan says we are not able to control/shut Zihadee camps in PO*K. Hails to Bangladesh for making Pakistanis to learn somthing.

Other than Pakistan, all our neighbours have been cracking down on militants antithetical to India. Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and China included. That is why even the Maoists are running out of ammunition now, unlike in previous times when they got ammo and weapons from their counterparts in Nepal and China.

So this time, thank you Bangladeshi people, their govt and their armed forces.

Bangladesh is being a good nieghbour. India should give them help where it is needed.

What can we do when we have been blessed with mir zafars like BAL.:meeting: Cracking down on people who haven't done any harm to BD but rather served Strategic interest of smaller S.asian nation by fighting against chankyans for their freedom. The Indians R terrorist backers in S.asia , not the other way around. Long live Awami-Indian friendship. :coffee:
