12. President of TÜRKİYE: RECEP TAYYİP ERDOĞAN

Well, to be honest, first I had also uncertainty about that, actually whole Europe had(/has) that, but I have read many times, even a couple of days ago somewhere that the government renovated the 2nd biggest synagoge of Europe for an ammount of 1 million usd dollars.....
Can you expect a Mosque to be renovated for 1 million usd dollars or euros here in the Netherlands or Europe?
No way.... Not even for 1 thousand.

So an "extremist Islamist" who strives for an Islamic Republic or who has to do with "Islamization", wouldn't do such thing, on the contrary, they/he would close churches, synagoges etc.

Secondly, my comment was about the fact that the turkish defence makes incredible improvements with his attanding in the turkish politics. I know the Turkey of 15 years ago, because I have much relations here in NL with turkish people, been there a couple of times, and it was unbelievably dependent to other countries, especially, the usa etc.
They're still dependent, but the improvement is incredible if we look 15 years ago.

P.S. that I'm saying this, does not mean that it's somethin that makes my happy, or that it's something that I support or whatever... ;)

I'm Dutch with my Heart and Sould.. (in Dutch we say it like "Nederlands in hart en nieren")
But this does not make me conceal or cover the truth/situation at the moment.

I'm happy that we don't have citizens like you, here in the Netherlands.
I can't imagine dutch people who critisize their own country to other countries.
:)
You go, man. It doesn't matter what your nationality is when you put facts out.

For many years people have been screaming that Turkey will become a 2nd Iran under akp, yet Turkey in general has been moving forward positively, be it economic, human rights, getting rid of dependency in the defense field etc. No dictator would be elected time after time with increasing vote rates, this alone says enough. Such staunch anti-akp people are afraid that the akp will change their lifestyle. Their hatred and jealousy for akp is based on 1) he's successful 2) he values Islamic norms and values (just like European parties like the CDA and CDU base their party on Christian values). Personally, I'm not interested in his Islamist side, but it's the achievements under him that gets the points. I absolutely don't want to imagine a Turkey under the chp or mhp in the same period akp ruled so far. if they did, probably there still would be retarded discussions regarding whether women should be able to wear a headscarf at public institutions or not, Turkey probably would still be dealing with hassles like the heron drone issues with Israel and buying equipment from other countries which it's not even allowed to deploy in some of its regions (the German Leopard tank issue), Kurds probably still wouldn't dare to publicly call themselves Kurd without being frowned upon, Turkey might have been begging for some money from the IMF again etc. Is everything perfect under him? no, but i do believe he saved Turkey from way more shit that could have happened, especially when we take the incompetent and old fashioned opposition in consideration.

Shhh the foreigners always know best.
And he's obviously not dutch, cant immagine a dutch ever saying something like that.

Are you supposed to be real Turkish.. Give me a break

Even thought i dont like him and his party i agree with most of your reply, its the sad truth that our opposition is a bunch of incompetent fools who oppose every single shit just to oppose akp even if its actually something good, thats not how politics in Europe work at all.

A big portion of AKPs success is thanks to the incompetency of opposition thats only good for talking trash, there is simply no other good alternative to them...

He's coming here today.
Poor guys, if he talks BS again just ignore it, thats what his doctor said.

I'd have to open the tv to see what happenned the rest of the day,i only saw the meeting with the President in the morning and the joint press conference.Later on he had a meeting with the Prime Minister and a joint committee of bussiness men .

Anyway, not being a fan of the man ,i have to admit he was always on a decent behaviour with us.In the press conference with our "Fuhrer"(lol) thay talked about the usual stuff:how well and brotherly he was received, the great relations between our countries, the fact that Romania supports Turkey's accession to the EU and ,ofcourse, trade.Turkey is our biggest non EU trade partner with a 4.5 billion $ volume. They want an increase to 10 billion $.Also,i do believe the translator was drunk as he translated when Erdo was speaking that a Turkish firm wants to invest 200billion $ in Romania (lol...i was with some colleagues infront of the TV,i bursted in laughter and made a joke :"maybe they want to buy the whole country!").A Romanian anchor woman was discussing the visit and she made a "millon $ face"(WTF?!?) when she read his previous statements on women role in society.

He had a state dinner programmed at 18.00 with the President but he unfortunately canceled it to return to Turkey earlier due to another terror attack today.Glad that this time there were no victims !

That's about it in a nutshell,i'll post if i see some more interesting stuff.

Somehow strange how the relations rose after a turbulent history, a good exsample that you dont need to have the same religion or ethnicity to actually leave behind your differences and start cooperating with eachother.
Well ok maybe Russia helped it a little bit but still my point stands. :D

I don't know if we have exactly Russia to thank for this After the 1878 war i know not of having a single problem with Turkey. While Bulgarians,Serbs and Greeks were busy at the beginning of the 20th century to expel you from the Balkans or massacre their Turkish minorities left from the Ottoman era,we were building mosques for the Turks/Tatars who chose to remain in our young state.

and @flamer84,
actually am pleasantly surprised that Romania and Turkey have positive ties, despite the history. I swear it, I have never heard of a single negative news between Turkey and Romania so far. hope these ties will improve more and more.

I never thought about it before i joined PDF but your indeed right, but good to have at least one friendly non-muslim country in Balkan. :D

Well,Romanians aren't the kind who keep a grudge for long,we kind of let it go if times passes by.We remain focused on those who keep pestering us even today, see Hungarians and Russians.

Another reason which comes to my mind is the fact that for some reason we're not to well seen by most in the Balkan region.Altough a small country by international standards Romania is pretty big for the region with even bigger potential and unlike some of our neighbours we didn't split into smaller states. So,we have all the "has beens" around us feeling pretty butthurt about it (Hungarians,Bulgarians, etc) who kind of always despised us as some "peasant nation".It's only natural to seek new friends in the region.
