12,500 Chinese to build Nicaragua’s $40bn canal

Wang Jing, the 43 year old chairman of the company HKND, brags on his website of long year experiences including infrastructure projects. but I got problem to find anything, neither on his website not elsewhere, what he has done.

but one thing I found out. the feasibility studies alone cost US$900 million (according to Wang Jing), that sum is huge comparing to the country GDP of $11b in 2013. no info of who conducts the study. that is legal robbery. we can assume Daniel Ortega certainly gets a portion of it.

Show us the link to the "US$900 mil feasibility studies" please :cheesy:

I'm surprised he didn't switch it the day he took over again. The previous President swapped it to Taiwan from the original China which Ortega himself (when he was previously President) switched to China back I think in the '90s.

Has anybody ever heard of the HKND Group? Have they ever built anything massive? Ortega is going to put a lot of money in his personal bank account from this.

Corruption index is corrupted. If there is a geopolitical benefit and money to make, China should continue to do business with "corrupt" countries.
At the end of the day, as long as they adhere to the contract, pay the invoice, it's all good. No need to explain or justify to any other "morally" superior countries.

Nah I am using that same warped logic against the creator of it :-)

. . .
That is not the point
profitability of one company is complicated
viaspace would have profited a lot less if they couldnt get the guyana deal 8-)

You are making this sound like some mult-billion deal. It probably isn't even $1M year. So small it isn't even worth mentioning. This isn't being funneled into some Presidential slush fund in Switzerland.

According to your logic the moral is the same
Look at US deals with vietcongs
And I am sure us corporations have been having sizeable business deals with similar countries in Latin america much earlier than China, say Monsanto, Coca Cola, Dow, Automobiles ,,,etc
So your arguments are not just unreasonable and they are going into silliness! 8-)

My original argument was Daniel Ortega is probably pocketing a good percentage of this $50B that is why some Nicaraguan people are complaining. Far more than any simple grass seed deal in Guyana.

You can water this down all you want by comparing it to peanut deals.

Gosh you still dont get it!

Where is your answer to the us deals with vietcongs?

Who built the Panama canal?

And nowadays Panama has a corruption index of 94
What was the total contract value in present day dollar?
Was its index better in the period when the Panama canal was built? :dirol:

Nice catch. LOL.

As if the US businesses do not do business in corrupt countries with corrupt leaders (at least when they are unable to topple and replace them with a dictator or junta).

And the Exxon Mobile never did business that worth 50Billion in Saudi Arabia, which is your typical democratic paradise.

That's exactly what China is doing. Talkers and haters will do their job. And it is understadable. China is literally in building mode in their former playground.

How do you know? I bet the King of Saud probably pocketed a good percentage of the mega Exxon deals over the history. History . More than your typical grass seed deal, huh?

And Saudi Arabia had no Saudi Arabian people complaining because if they complain their heads are chopped off.

And how do you know the entire Nicaraguan people are complaining? I saw many US people complaining about the Obamacare, did it really matter?

I know you are doing what you think is the best for your country's interest, but have a little bit integrity, please.

Yes, I'm sure they did. Sort of like how the Communist Party of China skims Billions too.

The big difference is the Saudi Family and the CPC basically own their respective countries and their people have no choice. Thus you HAVE to deal with their corruption.

In Nicaragua Daniel Ortega is simply an elected official. He's only in office until his term ends (or maybe for life since he pulled a similar Putin term limit extension to the constitution and expanded his powers). He doesn't own the government or the people. Once the next person is in he's back to being an ordinary citizen...but he'll be a very rich citizen...and it won't be from his salary.

.
Canal will be build and used. And all big ships unable to use Panama canal now will use Nicaragua one.Plus there will be more Chinese investments into country and more influence gain by China. This is why certain posters and certain countries(look who actually control Panama canal and how the control was taken) are in such state of frenzy and denial. And yeah those "spontaneous "protest will not have effect.

.
This investment is good for Nicaragua and rest of the world. The big ships unable to use Panama canal and this increase trade and commerce.
