I fail to see why we should compare ourselves to China you are clearly ahead in many aspects than us

India IS a power right now, if you have 10 billion people, which is more than the rest of world combined, you will be more powerful as a whole. But India with 10 billion people is still not a super power, cuz every per capita number in India is so pathetic. By this standard, China is not a super power either. I don't think Chinese elites like this stupid and ridiculous "super power" title. Although definitely not a superpower, China's current quality level on elementary education for general public is out of India's reach in decades, as I don't want to say forever. To fulfill this, Indian school kids have to move their rank on the PISA test from one end all the way crossing the whole spectrum to the other very end, that's tough! Good luck to India.

But your assumption that super power is related to per capita is itself defeating. Superpower is a term acquired on basis of certain factors and they are total economy, defence size, international clout, economic stake, position of your currency in international markets, etc. You per capita doesn't matter at all if above criteria is fulfilled. Now for the western world is not possible to achieve the above parameters without increasing per capita. For countries like India and China is possible.

Remember, in 1990 India and China were of same size. If China is now 5 times larger than India in just 30 years it is because of compounding interest growth calculations.

India has the population similar to China's and moreover on an average an Indian is 12 years younger than a Chinese. There is opportunity to exploit demographic dividend if a leader like Modi stays for next 10 to 15 years.

China's exports are more than India's entire economy.....and here Indians believe that India can overtake China in 10 years.

India last year export was more than GDP of Pakistan and still you guys compare yourself with India and think you can beat us. So, what's the point?? If you can think like that with 5 time less population and area, Why can't we with nearly equal population, huge land area, Young population??

3 universities in top 100: Tsinghua Peking and Fudan @ 47, 57, 71 respectively. Not anything nearly as good as we've expected but we are in pole positions when compare with India

India should keep growing at 8-9% for the next 20 years, give it's infrastructure and manufacturing sector a great push and we will be fine. India doesn't and cannot be China, we are a democracy and things move slowly here and I don't think we will give that up even for a 20% growth rate or 100 trillion $ foreign exchange reserves
