What about the electric power demand during night or when its cloudy?

What about the electric power demand during night or when its cloudy?

It's part of an overall power mix which will include coal power plant, gas combined cycle plants, nuclear for base load and Hydroelectric, solar and wind, etc for peak load.

Capacity - 19.9 MW
Cost - £260million

Rest is mathematics

Cost of the fuel to generate clean energy compare to fossil fuel operated power plants? IT is indeed about mathematics long term gains for short term pains

Cost of Solar cells has dropped fast in the last few years. It is now the cheapest source of electricity via Solar means.

2.2 Billion Dollars - > Only 1050 MW

Kala Bagh Dam -> 5 Billion -> 4000 MW -> You get water storage + free savings

Sound like we are wasting 1 Billion dollars

Good numbers, but not at the cost of Pakistan. Solar Energy can help Pakistan to reduce the power shortages quicker than the hydro route. In the long term the solar cost will come down.

We have to Build Solar and Wind Energy Generators in Industrial Zones like Karachi, Lahore, Fasailabad, Hyderabad etc. Instead of building them where there is no Industry, Building them in Baluchistan is not reliable as threats of BLA Terrrorist there! Near Karachi and Lahore are two Ideal places where they should build them!

Did you think about what you are writing before posting?

So, as you say, we build wind and solar energy 'generators' in cities. The wind and solar irradiation required, not to mention land to build these on, Abbajan lay kar ayengay? Kissi Jinn ka Abba bhi yeh kaam nahin kar sakta.

Rest easy dude, people smarter and more knowledgeable than you are making correct decisions.

Karachi, Hyderabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sindh, Punjab have thousand of Barren Lands so Write before you have some Knowledge of Land Mass of Pakistan 2 Big Provinces like Sindh and Punjab even Puktoonkhawa Province have lot of land available so write before you know about Geography of Pakistan!

I live in Lahore kid. I have been to most of the places you write about. Plus I am an Engineer. Believe me you do not know what you are writing about. I could try to explain, but you do not seem the type who might make a genuine effort to understand.

Bacha have you ever been to those cities? where will you build these solar zones i Karachi, lahore,Faislanad or Hyderabad?..........As for Baluchistan... not every district of Baluchistan is threatened by BLA... even if ur still not satisfied try the pashtun belt... from bolan toward zhob.. no threats there...

Hon Cheetah.

You are absolutely correct. After initial capital cost, maintenance and operating costs of solar & wind power; when compared with fossil fuel operating costs; is negligible. However there is an extremely vital item called cash flow.

It is just like buying a car on Hire Purchase where interest rates of as much as 20% are charged but people still buy cars on HP. Mainly because they just don’t have the money to pay it in one go. The same argument applies to power plants. If you have $1-billion to spend, you can either build a solar power plant to produce 200 MW or CC Gas turbine plant to produce 1000 MW. Depends what your priorities are.

When you compare levelized costs (that is including Capital costs) Solar power costs somewhere between 15 to 22 cents per KWH. You will note from the link below that according to 2010 data Solar energy is still most expensive. I would guess that since we is always short of foreign exchange, situation in Pakistan's case will be even more onerous.

1 MW PV farm will need 5 to 6 Acres of land and ~ PKR 15 Crore.

One thing is baffling, the absence of Chinese players along with CDB and Exim Bank of China in the Pakistani RE market. These bank are lending money overseas at dirt cheap rates.

Looking at the Pakistani market the Chinese players would should have swarmed this place.Anybody got any clues :undecided:

Current Unit cost in India is quoted around INR 7 .
