100,000 laptops to be distributed among students

Lahore—Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that laptops distribution scheme of Punjab government is a revolutionary step to introduce latest technology to the younger generation.

He said focusing the attention of the youth towards information technology is highly essential to eliminate extremism from society. Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that by imparting latest technology to the younger generation, they are being brought at par with the requirements and demands of the present era.

The Chief Minister was presiding over a high level meeting which reviewed laptops distribution scheme in detail. Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that, during the current fiscal year, 100,000 latest model laptops would be distributed among the boy and girl students, purely on the basis of merit, while the first consignment of these laptops would reach Lahore, by the end of October. He said that students studying in evening classes, religious seminaries, technical education institutions, commerce colleges and Islamabad education institutions have also been included in the laptops distribution scheme.

Appreciable step to promote computer educatin in youth. If Punjab government is buying so mnay laptops (200,000+100,000) and plan to continue the same in future as well, they should make the company set up either assembly plant or some part manufacturing facility along with advanced repair facilities.

Such huge pourchase deals must contain some sort of investment clause also to ensure that the deal results in some kind of economic activity as well.

On the same lines Pakistan is one of the fastest growing telecommunication and cell phoine market. GOP must make it mendatory for all cell phones being sold in Pakistan to setup repair facilities, mendatory spare part support for atleat 5 years, two year warrant, training for technical staff etc etc.

We are spending a huge amount on import of cell phone, our econommy should get some kind of benefit in return.

Are these laptops going to be "fully" under the ownership of students? If so, I think that's a bad idea. Students/kids generally lose interest in such things(especially if all their friends have it, and especially if school work is done on it), won't understand it's proper value and won't maintain them properly. It would be a waste of resources to give new laptops to every new batch of students each year.

So how about school-owned laptops, burrowed by students on a timely basis? Like how libraries and their book-lending works?

It is better to import if the quantity is in few hundred thousand. For a manufacturing plant to be viable you have to sell in millions and have sustained demand. The project will be mired in controversies and it will go no where.


Our govt. has been saying the same for past 2 years that they will provide each student in the country with a hand held tablet. They even took advanced bookings a year ago and yet to deliver.

These students who will get the laptops will of course not pay anything from their pockets for the maintenance of this cheap laptop & above all this money they are going to use to buy these cheap laptops is the money of Pakistan this is not coming from their PML-N’s pocket, this money is the blood & sweat of the people of Pakistan.

This also shows that PML-N once again is promoting one Province over the others which will only promote hate & racism, the same tactics they have been using in the past to damage Pakistan.

It is up to the people to decide what’s right for them but unfortunately the people of Pakistan are too busy sleeping & supporting the corrupt by staying blind & deaf. Today these people are selfish, stubborn & it because of these people Pakistan will never move forward.

A really Idiotic Move , Instead of wasting money on the Laptops , Give Incentives to the poor children who cannot afford to attend High School , or further Education , 90% people Receiving Laptops are capable of Buying them , and in the End it is a waste of Money & resources.

Free laptops really does wonders for politicians...in Assam India every yr thousands of laptops are distributed freely to class 10 passout students and congress is ruling Assam for the 3rd term.
