@Kashmiri Pandit I do not agree that roads and concrete was better. They couldn't build anything of the scale of the towers we see in Dubai.

With technology they had at that time it is still a wonder. Look at the engineering effort , supervision and quality control.
Can a road laid today survive 100's of years? pavements & roads laid in rome are still in use. I believe quality( & dedication) has decreased over period of time.

We are only dealing with structures, not on subject that which one is safer to build
Modern tech is indeed awesome particularly in the field of construction...... but some challenges are still unbeaten..... and what they did with hands and simple tools, we can't do that with heavy duty machines.......

Yup ! Roads in my city get damaged within 6 months .
Conditions of roads is poor in my city .
They get laid many times but the result is same .

Thanks for tagging me, nilgiri has explained well on steel as for concrete, Indians used concrete from ancient times, concrete method used in the south called as "gaar", it is or was made up of lime, cotton fibre, jaggery, and sand mixed in a proportion, its life span was 200 years, so Indians knew concrete before Muslims or Europeans came to India.

And no one can beat Indians on stone cutting, our ancients cut granite (hardest rock on earth) to precise forms when there was no modern machinery, one example is the perfect single stone circular well at mahabalipuram, today's engineers are not like the ancient, today's engineers are just book worms.
