You Indians did try to fool Sri Lanka with selling them radars that did not detect low flying objects and the trained LTTE to fly low flying aircraft to do suicide missions. Yes, Sri Lanka realized and stopped buying Indian military hardware and came to Pakistan for weapons because they trusted us. And again it was the Pakistani Al-Khalid Tanks and the Sri Lankan commandoes trained by the Pakistani SSG that finally wiped out the LTTE for good.

Sylhet, June 15 (bdnews24.com)– At least one person was injured as Bangladesh and Indian border forces exchanged 2000 rounds of gunfire on Tuesday at Tamabil border at Jaintapur Upazila in Sylhet.

BDR says a Bangladeshi, Abdul Jalil, 35, was injured in the gunfight and is now admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Locals, however, said three persons, including Jalil, received bullet injuries.

Of two others, one was identified as Khokon Miah while the other's name could not be ascertained immediately.

Both were admitted to Jaintapur Upazila Health Complex.

21 Rifles Battalion commander Lt Col Khandaker Zahirul Alam said some 50-60 people from the Khasia community entered some 300 yards into Bangladesh territory at Naljuri of Sripur border at around 11:30am to cultivate lands.

"We obstructed them but they defied us and were continuing with their farming," he said.

He said they hoisted red flag at the time.

BSF opened fires from Indian territory and BDR retaliated, the official said.

The gunfire continued for one hour from 12 noon.

Alam said the Khasia people had also entered into the Bangladesh territory on Monday with the help of BSF and cultivated land with tractor.

BDR protested it but they did not take it into account, he added.

A flag meeting is supposed to be held on Wednesday.

SHILLONG, June 15 – One woman was injured (Indian casualty missed by the thread starter)when the Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) today exchanged fire in three different areas along the Indo-Bangla border in the Jaintia Hills sector in Meghalaya.

Sari Nonglamin of Amdoh village received bullet injury on her leg during the exchange of fire. The injured woman is a lower primary school teacher.

The first exchange of firing began at around 9.30 am in Muktapur village, followed by subsequent firing at Naljuri and Jaliakhola around 11 am, official sources said. The exchange of fire lasted for several hours.

Trouble started yesterday when BDR objected to Indian villagers cultivating in their land, claiming the land as Bangladesh territory. BDR also hoisted red flags to stop the villagers from cultivating. They later opened fire to scare away the villagers. The BSF responded by firing back.
“The BDR resorted to firing to scare us from cultivating in our own land”, the village headman of Muktapur, Manoj Manar said.

Panic-stricken border villagers, meanwhile, have shifted to safer grounds following today’s incident. “The situation is tense. Most of the people, especially women and children, have moved to safer grounds after the gunfire”, Manar said.

Muktapur, Jaliakhola and Naljuri is about 20 km east of Pyrdiwah village, which was occupied by the BDR in 2001 for days, claiming it to be a part of Bangladesh, before they were forced to retreat.

There were several exchange of fire between the BSF and BDR this year due to claim and counter-claim of land by both countries.

Union Home Secretary GK Pillai during his recent visit here said the joint boundary working group of India and Bangladesh would meet during July or August to resolve all the boundary disputes between the neighbouring countries.

Of the 4,098-km-long border shared between India and Bangladesh, Meghalaya shares a 443-km border, part of which is porous, hilly and unfenced.
