1,000 Kurdish Soldiers desert Iraqi Army after disobeying Baghdad

Most Iraqis support an independant Kurdish state, but the Kurds are sticking to Iraq in order to get as much oil ca$h as they can before separating. They also want to take over Iraqi oil rich lands to include them in Kurdistan before splitting.

I really wish for Kurds to get a independant saw, just not at the expense of Iraq.

is there any political settlement like devolution of power / referendum for separation etc on current parliament's agenda?

The problem is "disputed territory", that's where the vast oil fields are. They have ethnically mixed areas including Arabs, Turkmen, and Assyrian as well as other minorities. The Kurds moved in to the city of Kirkuk (which was originally a Iraqi-turkmen city) in the 1940's, now they make up 55% of the population and want to add it to their territory.

The Iraqis however refuse to give Kirkuk to the Kurds.
