WASHINGTON —— President Obama has offered Pakistan an expanded strategic partnership, including additional military and economic cooperation, while warning with unusual bluntness that its use of insurgent groups to pursue policy goals "cannot continue."
The...
At the very least, the AQ-led groups have not 'boogied from Somalia', and if anything are getting more entrenched in the region.
I repeat...if its Waziristan today, it will be Somalia tomorrow - unless you tackle the Salafi hub in Saudi.....the heartland of the Salafi Jihad Movement.

WASHINGTON – Osama bin Laden was unquestionably within reach of U.S. troops in the mountains of Tora Bora when American military leaders made the crucial and costly decision not to pursue the terrorist leader with massive force, a...
ISLAMABAD: Omar Saeed Sheikh, a detained Pakistani militant, had made hoax calls to President Asif Ali Zardari and the Chief of Army Staff, Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, in a bid to heighten Pakistan-India tensions after last year’s terrorist attacks on Mumbai, investigators have told Dawn...
Eid Mubarak TK.
A quick suggestion for the guys responsible for the website content.
The tag line should be revised to: 'An independent defence organization for the analysis of pakistani security and strategic affairs' - remove the word 'the' as it is poor english.
Is it really India?

FOREIGN Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi says that Pakistan is “compiling hard evidence of India’s involvement” in terrorist attacks on Pakistan’s public and its armed forces.
If he and the interior minister are correct then we...

“When I heard Taliban voices, I told myself: this was it,” exclaimed a young officer in white shalwar-qameez as he addressed a rally in support of the Pakistani troops. He adjusted his walking aid to steady himself, “I was ready to...

Second Editorial: NWFP police
General Ashfaq Kayani has taken a welcome initiative. The army chief said that he would give a blank cheque to NWFP’s IG police for equipment, weapons and ammunition required for policing the province. This is not only a good move but also...

A Tale of Two Stories
Cyril Almeida
Military men have been up to some very bad things, we’ve learned this week. But the very different reactions to two seemingly unrelated stories in the media tell us at least one thing: things aren’t going to get better any time...
As the Scahill article indicates, the Americans are special ops contractors on various missions focusing on tracking and hunting down AQ and AQ-affiliated pakistani operatives in the cities - and that is why the pakistani government is allowing them the space to operate.

Conspiracy theories, by oversimplifying complex political questions, save you mental labour. Why strain one's nerves to understand Marx's dull essays on economy to understand the current financial meltdown when we know ''Jewish bankers'' have engineered this crisis? Al Qaida...
Excellent analysis - also confirms the long-held view that AQ and its affiliated network is calling the shots in the region - so much for India/Israel conspiracies!
I've said it before and I'll say it again - AQ and the Arab-led Salafi Jihad Network is the PRIMARY sponsor of the TTP thugs.
Frankly, I find AP version to be more credible than the ISPR one considering the story is not exactly great PR for the military.
While more weeding out is needed, I do believe things have improved drastically since early 2008 and the hardliners appear to be increasingly marginalized.
Clearly the militant sympathizers have yet to be fully weeded out from the military.

All jihadi militant sympathizers inisde the military must be weeded out - clearly the pro-jihadi bloc has not been fully neutralized as yet.
This also lends credence to the French Inestigator, Brugiere's assertion that the LeT agenda has gone far beyond Kashmir and is now closely aligned with...
Ghazala Minallah's letter of November 18 titled "For those who say it's not our war" was an eye-opener. We live in difficult times and face an enemy that we created ourselves sometime back. We glorified these militants and called them 'mujahideen'. Now they kill our brothers and sisters but we...
Don't talk rubbish.
JI was the lead cheerleader for the Lal Masjid goons during the standoff in 2007.
FYI, Fazlullah and his TTP thugs were rampaging in Swat in 2006 to set up their fiefdom long before the Lal Masjid crisis ever transpired!
JI has become the lead mouthpiece for TTP and...
Sir: With reference to the letter ‘Lame duck Taliban’ (Daily Times, November 19, 2009), Asad Khan is absolutely right when he says: “The Taliban are cowards who attack women and children in suicide attacks but are afraid of fighting the Pakistan military.” In fact, all...
