Pakistan Air Force | News & Discussions.

As @Ali_Baba said, the PAF can do that by equipping the Block 1 and/or Block 2 with the LKF601E (and use new Chinese AAMs and AShMs with them).

PAKISTAN POSITIONING JF-17 FOR GROUND ATTACK ROLE

The notion of JF-17 Block-1 or Block-2s with LKF601E would be really exciting to the PA I think ... GMTI/SAR with access to AGMs like the YJ-9E and inherent A2A capability to target helicopters/defend against enemy air cover. A CBU-105-like weapon would also be a gamechanger.

Pakistan Air Force | News & Discussions.

China/Italy/UK won't capitulate to sharing source codes. If the Grifo-E wins the Block 3 tender, then it means that the PAF has secured a non-Chinese BVRAAM and AShM suite through Leonardo and MBDA. It can also point to the PAF working with a trusted 3rd party like South Africa or Turkey on...

Pakistan Army's T-129 ATAK Helicopter Deal | Updates & Discussions.

If it makes you feel any better, Pakistan's economic issues would have probably delayed this deal anyways.

    JF-17 Block-3 -- Updates, News & Discussion

    1. Seems the idea of placing an IRST in the JF-17 fell-off after 2015. It'd be useful, but it's not essential to any of the PAF's air warfare scenarios. The priority has been AESA radars, integrated EW/ECM, and HMD/S. 2. The Leonardo BriteCloud is on offer to the PAF, but neither the PAF or...

PAKISTAN POSITIONING JF-17 FOR GROUND ATTACK ROLE

Yes. Page 2. https://www.leonardocompany.com/documents/20142/3163473/GRIFO_E_MM08942_LQ.PDF.pdf?t=1543843580751 Yes. The Grifo-E doesn't seem to offer much more in terms of performance vs. the KLJ-7A and LKF601E, but it being GaN-based and cheaper than the Vixen 1000E is interesting. The Vixen...

Grifo-E. GaN based, and lower price vs Vixen.

Pakistan and UK Militaries hold strategic dialogue

Leonardo's Selex division (which develops the Kronos, Seaspray, Grifo-E, etc AESA radars) is in the UK. The Kronos is one of the options the PAF was looking at for replacing the MPDR. Getting a UKEF credit line would go a long way in making that program happen (the UK industry would benefit...

Pakistan and UK Militaries hold strategic dialogue

It depends on whether Pakistan's asking for the Typhoon. If it is, then it'll ask for a line of credit/loan. If it isn't, then no one (on either side, but especially Europe) is even entertaining the notion, much less looking at financing.

Pakistan and UK Militaries hold strategic dialogue

That's the credit I was referring to -- i.e., financing. Those aren't coming by as easily to the PAF as they had back in the mid-to-late 2000s when it inked the Erieye & Spada deals. Sure, it doesn't have enough cache to get Typhoons via a loan, but low-level radars (to replace the MPDR)...

Pakistan and UK Militaries hold strategic dialogue

...via IHS Jane's: "Qatar's deal with the United Kingdom in 2018 to procure Eurofighter Typhoon multirole fighters and BAE Systems Hawk advanced jet trainers is the largest deal to have been supported through UK export credit, it has been revealed. The UK's export credit agency, UK Export...

Pakistan and UK Militaries hold strategic dialogue

Sadly, the issue is that Pakistan's strongest institutions believe they need US/UK support. If the US isn't going to supply arms, then convincing the UK to release export permits and, ideally, credit (for big-ticket items such as the Typhoon, etc). This is even more acute today due to the IMF's...

Anatolian Eagle' 19 - Thunder to roar in Turkey !

@Oscar the Italian-Brazilian AMX came at the wrong time. Had it come in the early 1980s, the PAF might have considered it instead of the A-7 and Chinese A-5. And had it come in the 2000s, it would have been an option for sprucing up the COIN/CT attack capability (and later endure as an...

Pakistan to become 2nd country to purchase Turkey’s domestic anti-torpedo system

I'm interested in seeing how the first 4 Chinese subs arrive in Pakistan. It'd benefit the PN to maintain one standard training and maintenance channel for the subsystems. If the Chinese subs come with baseline gear (without sonar, ESM, CMS, etc) the PN could finish configuring them at KSEW for...

Bangladesh Economic & Infrastructure Development - Updates & Discussions

So in these cases, is the risk emanating from the growth of imports due to the Takka's rise and/or a growing number of locals with foreign or hard currency? Or are Bangladesh's manufacturers finding it tough to compete against even cheaper vendors elsewhere (in which a higher value currency...

In pursuit of $19B contract, Sweden's Saab offers to build fleet of fighter jets in Canada

There's a lot of drama in this program, but my suspicion is that it's all a mask to cover the fact that the RCAF actually doesn't want just one fighter, but two. Basically, the Super Hornet for general purpose duties backed by a smaller force of F-35s for deep strike missions (as part of...
