Nowhere it is stated in the article that LCA-mk2 will able to carry more weapon than Rafale. For LCA-mk2 payload of 5 ton is already an official figure. And it is stated that Rafale will able to carry 6 ton. So even according to the article, Rafale carries more payload than LCA-mk2.

IAC-2 will be conventionally powered. No decision of nuclear power AC for India is taken as of now.

I think it will be conventional powered with LM 2500E engine producing 80MW power each. India will not send it's AC in Pacific. It will remain in Indian water or somewhere near SCS and for this we don't need very very long duration gap. Adding to it, India's has yet not mastered the technology...
